Different number of shaders?

Did 19x.x resolve the issue with using two cards of a different number of shaders?

If not, is there a way to predict what kind of PPD I'd be making with a GTS 250 + 9800GT?

To my knowledge, 19x.x drivers just allowed [email protected] with SLi on. And folding with cards from the same family.

So I don't think you can fold with your GTS250 & 9800GT unless you flash it do a 9800GTX
I believe tator is incorrect. Last i heard you should be able to fold with SLI on, AND without the better card matching the worse one. You should be going at full steam. 10k with the two of them i would suppose.

any other opinions? I'm still on the edge here.

You can use different shader amounts, but they need to be from the same family.

Well...they need to be from the same family if you do not want a performance hit.

That's what I'm asking, I know there is going to be a hit. But how big of a hit are we talking? 10%? 20%? Just how significant it it?

Someone on the Bit-Tech forums reported a 20-30% hit depending on WU.

That's why I said the best option would probably be a BIOS mod the GTS250 to a 9800GTX+

Folding with SLI is a bit shakey, It doesn't work properly for me and a few others...

Heres a thread on SLI folding woes.

I think you can fold with different shaders, I read it somewhere but im not sure... It might be a feature of GPU3... But im guessing here so dont take my word on that. I know you can fold with different cards now.

Hmm, looks like I'll just have to figure out the actual numbers from experience then. I'll throw in the 9800GT after the Thanksgiving break and see what happens.
You dont take a performance hit with different shaders anymore, I have a 9600 gso and 9800gtx on the same machine with no point drop.

But if the cards are of a different family some have said they still get the performance hit.

It seams this issue is still unclear.
The issue was in fact fixed. As I understand it, the problem was on the Core side and not the driver side.

If your cores havent updated since October then just go into your work folders and delete both versions of FahCore. When you start folding again it will download the latest versions.

Core 14 fix.

Here is the link for the new core 11 that you will want to place in the folder as well. That should fix any problems you have with a 2xx and 9xxxx series card.

Yeah the fahcore will update itself automatically, but it seemed this update came out under the radar for most people. I just provided the link, so there were no more questions about it.
