My school is looking to purchase a digital display to have various news things scrolling on it. I was thinking something like a Mini PC and 28" monitor with the things scrolling as images.

The tech heads want it to be something more. Anybody familiar with this area, this thing will be used almost like a billboard.

It will only be in the lobby so nothing insanely large is needed.

That seems to be exactly what I was going to propose to them, except the brands were different.

Zotac Mini PC w/ Intel Atom 1.6 GHz Dual Core, 40 GB HDD, 2 GB RAM + 28"-32" Display.

My alternative seems way cheaper than what NEC is getting at, think my idea would work? I just don't know how the news would scroll, like what programs to use.

PS: The PC would run XP.

Edit: Just saw the NEC has free software for Digital Sign Management.

The idea behind Nec's design is to be capable of running the monitor from a remote connection via LAN or you can purchase a model with a built in PC board,

I use my monitor for my PC and sometimes use the NEC signage software to mess about and make my own billboard,
