Hey OCN!

I've been trying to find a cheap and great gaming laptop for my gf. I was looking at digital storm laptops and they look nice for the price. I was wondering what you guys think about DS, in terms of reliability. Their xm15 Level 1 fits right with performance and the budget of about $1k.

Or if you guys have another company that you know of thats reputable? Possibly CyberPower PC or someone like that?

I've cast aside alienware and sager. Sager because I saw their BBB rating was an F. Alienware I have dealt with previously and have had TONS of problems, but that's probably because I bought their first-gen gaming laptops.

How does CyberPower pit against Digital Storm?

I wouldn't go for either. Get a Sager, yes I said Sager! Sager is a OEM, the reason why they have such a low rating is because they're only concerned with selling units.

I have to tell You this first. Sager laptops are THE BEST gaming grade notebooks in the world! period, dot!

Clevo who is the ODM (Original Design Manufacturer) makes the units, sells them to Sager (OEM) who brands them as their own and in turn sells them to resellers like XoticPC.

You go to the reseller and customize Your system with them. They will in turn send that config to Sager who will assemble it and ship it to You. The reseller handles everything from that point on; warranty, RMA's, etc.

Check the BBB ratings for these resellers:

No

Hmm, whats even more strange is that the Sager and the Digital Storm Laptops (15" model) look extremely similar. Or maybe its just me.

Thanks for all the info emc_2! I really appreciate it! +REP for you!

I took a look at those sites and XoticPC has some really nice deals. I know you told me Sager is the best hands down, but when it comes to specs it SEEMS like they are exactly the same as the lappy from DS. TBH, I saw sager before I ever even heard of Digital Storm, but I ran as soon as I saw that F rating for sager. Now I understand why thanks to you.

So I'm really wondering, are DS laptops not good quality or is it something else?

The reason why I'm putting so much emphasis on them is due to the nice warranty that they include in their laptops. Even though I will be fixing all the software related issues, I still would like the hardware stuff to be covered. Also, it seems like the Sager and DS laptops I'm looking at are the same specs and price (Maybe even the same exact PC).

All DS laptops are Sager's (Sagers in general have reliability like a like pre-Lenovo ThinkPad's). Like I said since most resellers will price match, the deciding factor is usually their warranty coverage/length and how good the CS is.

Ok I found an HP around the same price and thats offering the same in terms of processor, RAM, etc.

Now, the only thing that it comes down to is the screen rez (DS has full 1920x1080), whereas the HP can only get 1366x768 and the GPU. So im wondering really which GPU is better: GT 540M or AMD HD 6570M ?

I really wish people would stop this, its CLEVO, not Sager. Clevo makes the laptop, Sager is a distributor of Clevo.

^THIS. It's even mentioned in this thread. Granted when I started out here I made that mistake of confusing OEM with ODM.

Sometimes you can get certain Clevo models cheaper from system76 (a Ubuntu Linux system reseller) but they usually have less customization options and you'll have to grab windows yourself if you need it.

That's because Sager is the reseller and assumes responsibility for the warranty.

Get her the M11x. No lie. The stock M11x revision that they have up is a thousand, and the specs are sure to run any game out there.

It looks perfect for any mobile gamer.

If you can fork up a bit more cash, snag the M14x. Those two are the only machines from Alienware that I would ever recommend.
