According to industry sources, Raven Software
, makers of Singularity, have laid off 40 employees. The firings are due to the Activision-owned studio reportedly shifting to work on Call of Duty Black Ops DLC and other DLC instead of making full games.

Sucks for those guys
.

Be ready to open your wallet for activision, if they are dedicating an entire studio to dlc, they are going to come at you like a angry man high on pcp. just hope they dont eat our eyeballs.

What a shame. Singularity wasn't a bad game. Graphics weren't anything to brag about but it was fun nonetheless.

its what happens when people are merely #s to a business. Activision lets people go from their studios all the time.

I'm about fed up with Activision.
They easily make enough money to keep all 40 employed.

"Gotta milk CoD some more, oh wait we can make more money by firing some people."

Thanks for caring about people's livelihood instead of a few extra dollars on a report.
Oh wait..

Like you would keep paying people you didn't have a use for.

Look, I hate Activision as much as the next guy, but lets not pretend that business should keep people employed because they can. Because they can is not good enough.

Excuse me, but I think you're confusing shareholders for people that care. =/

We run a fine line today between being capitalism and socialism. On one hand we bash the actions of the regulatory EU while on the other we bash the actions of capitalism that roams free which manifests itself in many forms, one being Activision.

It is most definitely sad that these 40 people are now out of a job but unless we can find a perfectly harmonious solution to unionized regulations and complete capitalism, these kind of conflicts will continue to occur.

They're a game company. Any game project could easily benefit from more people and, frankly, a lot of terrible games could probably be made not to suck even with just 10 more people working on it.

I remember when games had like 4-5 people in the credits, and oddly enough they were better than the ones today that have a freaking credit roll longer than most movies. All people care about today are graphics, just look at America's Army. AA3 went to hell in a hand basket quick, but it looked nice.

If they can afford to keep the people then keep them, otherwise the current world economy will never get better

Who doesn't like ST Voyager: Elite Force? That game was great. Actually Raven made tons of good games.

DLC = you get 1/10 a game for 1/4-1/3 what a new game would cost. I don't know why people even put up with DLC or itemshops for that matter.

I know I don't care for it, but is there a lot of demand for DLC?

the more a game sells the bigger the demand for it there is. $20 map packs anyone?

The only DLCs that i have played and found personally worth the money are the Fallout 3 DLCs, and borderlands DLC. They are sizable, add tons of new content for not much money.
