Dilemma: 5770 or 2x 4870?

2308 Views 37 Replies 16 Participants Last post by  wolzen
My current budget is $1100 for my new gaming system...: 4870 in crossfire (hits $1100) or single 5770 (hits $1000, can't put another one, it goes beyond $1100...)?

What should I do? Go with a single 5770 and put another one down the road for roar power of DX11 or simply put all the power right now?

Im thinkin a new 4870 costs are equal to a 5770. think of it this way, will the two 4870s cost more or less than $340? if more, go 5770CF. If less get the 4870CF. the newer gen has more perks but you still wanna game the hardest.
Sapphire?...

mm....

The only one in stock @Ncix.com is the Powercolor (Heatsink V2) 5770 version... should I wait until the Sapphire comes out?

As for the PSU, i've already got one... (600w ModXStream, got good reviews)

@XIDillon

4870 are $140 shipping include and 5770 are $190...

powercolors on ebay and newegg are $170, ebay is $170 free ship. some of us here ignore the branding as the cards are all the same. but some hold true to their trusted vendors when it comes to their warranties.

but to aswer your original Q, 4870CF or get the dual card. but i think theyre a lil more $

Except price/performance.

4870 CF definitely. A 5770 is roughly equal to a single 4870 performance wise. It has the added benefits of DX11 and lower power consumption, but 2 4870's in CF will crush it performance wise.
I shop @Ncix because i'm in Canada.

Diamond isn't that a good brand... well... I heard some people say that it wasn't at all..

I'm going with 5770 and another one down the road.
NCIX has pricematching so find yourself the best price from Shopbot.ca and enjoy.

Found that from shopbot. So put that price in, put in the link and enjoy a $170 5770. NCIX has never refused a single price match so I wouldn't worry.

no it wont.... HD4870 CF is old tech. when DX11 is here and your getting a new system. why would you get old cards and put them in CF??? get the newer tech get one of them now and then get another later. also HD4870 dont cale well in CF and consume a lot of power.

Brand does not matter for the 5770's. These are all reference cards. All the manufacturers are doing is putting stickers on them.

I also agree that XFX is not the better choice lately. Their customer support is slow and unhelpful and their cards are crap. Sapphire is number 1.

yeah.. if i go with a ati card for DX11 itll be either a diamond or sapphire.

Why not the PowerColor? Lots of people tend to say that they are great : Custom Heatsink, etc.. (I'm saying that because it's the cheapest too)

And @Afrodisiac...

Thank you, but I already knew this.
