All of the developers we have spoken to about DirectX 10 have greeted it with open arms. Many of those developers are working towards either porting an existing game to DirectX 10 or are in the process of creating a new game using the new API and acknowledge that the lower overheads associated with many heavily used functions will allow them to create scenes with more visual complexity and richness. Both AMD’s and NVIDIA’s developer relations teams are working with games developers to ensure that they have the necessary tools to make efficient use of DirectX 10’s capabilities.

Nice..Porting existing games to DX10, I may just have to get one now! Well, someday...
I'm looking foard to an Elder Scrolls V game using DX 10... That would convince me to get a DX 10 setup.
Too bad you need Vista to use DX10.

"With DirectX 10 only being available under Windows Vista, gamers will have to not only purchase a DirectX 10 capable video card, but also upgrade their operating system too."
Yeah, isnt a cut down version of DX10 coming for XP?
No, quite the opposite: Direct X 9.0L (also referred to as 9.0Ex in the article?) allows VISTA to play DX9 games, not the other way around.

It sounds to me like most of DX10's improvements are in the realm of increased efficiency and performance and cutting down majorly on the CPU utilization which is always good. The few DX10 games we've been shown so far are looking amazing and this is just the tip of the iceburg.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DirectX

"[Direct X 9.0L] Windows Vista Only. (L for Legacy) Provides DirectX 9 API for Vista. The Inquirer posted an article stating that 9.L would be an "emulation" of DX 10.0 for XP, but this is presumed to be inaccurate." - Wikipedia.
damn it looks we will all have to get vista then, i was looking forward to running dx10 on xp but never mind hopefuly m$ will step up and bring it to xp when they realise no one wants vista
DirectX10 is blood, current DX9 vid cards are turnips, you cant squeeze blood out of a turnip.

I can try...

Personally, I've got no problem with going to Vista. from what I've seen, it's just XP with a better interface and DX10, but if it lets me play Crysis with it all purty, then yes I'll buy it!

Why even worry about DX9, eventually we will want to upgrade and upgrading to DX10 and Vista will be a must for those who'd want to run/play the latest games.

Now, as for DX9.0L, Remonster , I don't see why or how a DX10 card will take DX9.0L when DX10 is a higher upgrade........AFAIK, you can't install DX8.0 on a DX9 card so it'd be the same for the DX10 not being able to install DX9.0, wouldn't it? Kinda confusing to see how it DX9 will cope with DX10 together.

You can run DX8 games on a DX9 card.

I'm glad that dev's are open to DX10. I would have thought that development would be slow at first. I can't wait for the dx10 source engine *drools*
