Okay first off, Hi everybody, I just joined!

So, been reading threads all over this site for years now, and has helped me a lot for bunch of things.

Now Im into games and especially one game, called Counter-Strike. Yea, that one, 1.6. The immortal and evergreen 1.6.

So, the thing im up to now, is finding a great, brilliant, the ultimate, in another word, the best mouse out there for this particular FPS game.

That said, I wanna prevent myself from being told these same things: "The best/ultimate mouse is the one that fits your hand perfectly!" Well, come on guys. You can do better than that!
wink.gif

So, I understand the pure conception of best mouse for a particular game or just for general using. And I understand it quite well. So..

First off, I need a pro opinion about what a mouse actually needs to make itself the best for most of the people/gamers.

I mean, Great tracking? Brilliant responsiveness? Maybe glide? Durability?

Thats pretty much it, I want us to have a little(i hope its not a little though) chat here. Helping me in this case, you are helping others like me, and yea thats that.

Lets make this thread the largest "CS 1.6 best mouse" related thread (on this site anyway).

Lets get the chat started!

P.S. I heard G9x is pretty good? as well as G400/G500 ? DA ?

Since the sensitivity can't go below 1 on 1.6 it would largely depend on your sensitivity. If you're a low sensed gamer then mice that can't do 400-450 DPI would be automatically disqualified.

It's more of a palm grip and glides very well.

I'm low sensitivity player, it takes me about 84cm to do 360° in game. I use CM Storm Spawn @ 1800 CPI, by any means CPI that high doesn't disqualify the mouse. There are two ways of bypassing sensitivity 1.0 limit:
1. Lowering Windows' pointer speed setting - during game I set it at 3/11, which gives 0.25 * 1800 = 450 CPI.
2. Setting default_fov higher than 90° - eg. setting it at 180° will effectively halve your sensitivity, default_fov 360 = sensitvitty * 0.25. It has two downsides though:
a) fov will be always 90° except when you die, the moments before you are taken to spectator mode fov will be messed,
b) your max turning speed is still same as with whatever is set in Windows so for 1800 CPI @ 6/11 and 800x600 @ 100 FPS it's laughable 0.56 m/s.
In my opinion 1. option is better, but if you happen to need sensitivity only slightly lower than 1.0 then 2. is good enough.

In my opinion CS Source is very different game in comparison to CS 1.6.

My buddy uses a Deathadder and loves it albeit for SC not CS. (just realized SC and CS are completely different games with the same acronym essentially lol

I dont wanna mess with the fov..

Im playing always at 6/11, 400 DPI and 3.5 (well the in game sens can vary, but i've been playing for years at 3.5 sens).

Is MX518 still good? I mean it is a legendary mouse, evergreen type of mouse with absolute outstanding performance and durability. and if its already "old" for the contemporary (present-day/current) gamers, does its replacer G400 replace it perfectly? I mean perfectly? and is G400 the same exact size like MX518?

1. zowie am - best sensor on the market atm if you dont need over 2.5 m/s , no drivers, lightweight, and good cable shape and weight.
2.abyssus,deathadder- higher perfect control speed than the am but high lod, annoying drivers, some models jitter.
3. ms 1.1, 3.0, and WMO- overclock to 250hz or more and you get 1.5 m/s. This is not perfect but the sensor is very reliable. These 3 shapes are what gaming companies have been copying for a while now.
4.g400 v2- v2 has prediction removed and it is plug in and play 1000hz unlike the mx518. If you like heavy mouse and palm grip this is the best IMO.

best sensor?? is that confirmed? does it have that infamous "negative acceleration" issue?

well I can use g400 as a claw grip as long as its the same size as mx518..

I played counter strike since the beta version. 1999-2000.
Mx518 legend mouse? I tottaly hate it's sensor. I have both v1(1600dpi) and v2 (1800dpi). Setpoint is a disaster, i think the developers of this soft are monkeys or totally morons, every update is ****ed up more or less.
The last chance i am going to give to logitech is for g400 but i am waiting for a version with angle snapping removed. Still deciding g400, zowie am or razer da.

I dont know mate, have read a lot of articles/reviews/forums and everywhere mx518 is praised hugely. Never used it long enough to say whats what.

So from what Im hearing G400 v2 (with removed predtiction) is really a decent mouse.

The things that bother me though are:

Image processing: 5.8 megapixels/second compared to G9x's 12megapixels/second
Max. acceleration: 25G* compared to G9x's 30G
Max. speed: 70-140* inches/second compared to G9x's 165 inches (4.19 m)/second

are these things crucial for playing CS and how much?
and does it have that negative(or positive i dontknow) acceleration?

There is actually no reason whatsoever to use Setpoint/Drivers for the MX518 or G400. Software can only make it worse, be it weird speed settings or interpolated dpi.

G9x has negative acceleration, G400 has pretty much perfect control when on 400 DPI. The reason why the megapixels are higher for the G9x is because it is laser.

Consider the R.A.T. 5... Dedicated sniper button, amazing looks, $50.. or you can get the r.a.t. 7 for a bit more.

That's not the exact reason. A Optical mouse could have a similar rating if enough effort was put forth to design a newer architecture.

To OP. There is no "Best" mouse. I don't want to disappoint you but it's the truth.
