Displaying GPU client crashed system

150 Views 5 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  StarryNite
So when i open my gpu clients display mode, it freezes, then crashes my system. It started doing this after a failed installation of gigabytes gamerhud. This was a great utility to monitor temps and speed. I uninstalled it and it still crashes the system hard. Any ideas?

This is very common with the visual display. It is best just to avoid it and set up fahmon to monitor your progress. Many people here (myself included) do not even open the display under any circumstances whatsoever. In the folding FAQ there is a great guide to setting up fahmon. Check it out.

Agreed.. While the display is pretty to look at about 2-10 times, it's actually most likely causing you slower PPD since the GPU2 client is using the GPU to crunch [email protected] data as well it's now trying to display the crunching visually on the screen.

I would, as sugguested, get FAHMon (http://fahmon.net) to monitor your points and PPD as well you could get the GPU2 "Console" version which is a basic DOS prompt or service based install. You get nothing but a console to track progress as it's running as seen below. In Vista however the console version CANNOT be used as service at this time so just open CMD and run the command to have her crunch. More PPD as well most likely (though it's debatable I'm sure

Thanks guys. I dont normally run with the display open, as i figured out early that it is bad for ppd, but it never crashed on me before until today. I do use fahmon and it is great. What i was doing was watching the end of a work unit. I just wont open it again is all

Hehe.. yea, sorry I replied and THEN noticed your 1 mil points banner

Your a pro at it but I had the same problems with the displays and they are cool to view and show others what your doing to explain.. Showing them my little black CMD window is, well, less than entertaining than the protein image scuttleing around

Don't run the display. Just hover your mouse over the icon and it'll tell you how much is finished, or right click the icon and click the log file to find out details. It's very much "set it and forget it".
