hi guys, well basically its cheaper to buy "de-ionized water" which is what you buy when your premixing antifreeze, so im wondering can i use that stuff, you can get like what is it, like 2L or so? or maybe its 4L for like 2$ as to paying like 10$ for a jug of "distilled" water, thanks

You can buy Distilled water for like 1.50 a gallon from your local super market. Its the easiest and cheapest way to cool your system some coolants even tend to perform worse than distilled water itself. Just because it has cool in its name doesn't make it cooler by default. Really don't worry about any additives unless its PT nuke or you are mixing copper and aluminum in which case you want to look at an anti-corrosive additive.

"De-ionized or non-conductive water may seem desirable initially, because it is a poor electrical conductor, and therefore will not cause much damage if a leak occurs. However, water is an excellent solvent, and so if de-ionized water is put into a water cooling system, it will corrode the water blocks to get its ions back."

That depends on the chemical makeup of the block.

That's correct. Aluminum will corrode much faster than brass or copper.

And the instant you start you loop up it becomes ionized anyway. Really distilled is the way to go.

As a passing thought, why isn't 134a used in cooling loops? Expense is the only thing that comes to mind for me.

I think it is used in high end phase changing systems that go below 0c and cost.
