Distillled plus Pentosin G11 good enough?

1681 Views 33 Replies 13 Participants Last post by  ira-k
Hi guys and gals,

Would a combination of distilled water and Pentosin G11 be good enough for a loop with an Apogee GTZ/GT and a GTX360/480 with microres V2?

Thanks...

That's bascially what I use but with the addition of a few drops of PT Nuke.

Would it be ok if I add the PT nuke after? I still have to buy it separate.

That would be fine. Actually, that's what do I

Just add it while the loop's running to make sure it gets mixed around. If you have any further questions, go to shoppts.com and send off an email to them. You can also ask for Quoc as he's the one who advised me over the phone on my very loop. You can also just call as well. They're great folks and will answer any other water cooling questions that you may have. I know I sound like a walking ad for them but I'm a customer for life.

This info may be wrong, but here's the way I understand it. I got this information from several forums including [H]ardOCF, XS and of course this one. The posts were written by people I know for sure know what they're talkin' about. Pentosin or any type of anti freeze (ie corrosion inhibitor) is only required if you mix different metals in your loop or if you live outdoors in the Artic
. (ie aluminum and copper) I've also heard Pentosin or antifreeze helps lubricate the pump.
As far as PT Nuke or any anti biological goes, the way I understand it, it's only necessary if your boxen has a habit of mold or plant life or your boxen is in direct sun light (like in the window) They also recommended some type of water wetter. (dish washing liquid or a major brand wetter)

Now with all that crap. I run two 24/7 Q6600's DCing ([email protected] GPU2 and WCG). Both have bowed Apogee GT's, both have MCR220 rads and both have MCP350 water pumps. One has a MCW60-R WB on a eVGA 8800GS VGA card. The other is just the CPU loop. (no mixed metals) On the boxen with the CPU + GPU WB's I didn't have any PT Nuke so I just run Pentosin (G11) for the cool blue color and a drop of Dawn liquid dish soap. I haven't had the first problems with either loop (my boxen are in my bedroom out of direct sun light). They run pretty consistently and have run for at least six months or more.

I've even run loops with just QFC distilled water and I only use Pentosin for the color and the chance that'll help lubricate my pumps.

G11 and PT Nuke are cheap insurance, IMHO. Needed or not, I don't run loops without them (or Swiftech HydrX). So cheap, not much reason not to.
You could run a loop with distilled only for a long time. I use the G11 as a leak detector (UV) and add PT nuke as it makes me feel warm and fuzzy
You'll be fine.

From everything I've read and been told I came up with:

Pentosin - Every 40 ounces of distilled water add four ounces of pentosin,
PT Nuke - Every 40 ounces of distilled water add two drops of PT Nuke
Glycerin - Every 40 ounces of distilled water, add one ounce of glycerin
Dawn - Every 40 ounces of distilled water, add 1 drop of "Dawn"

Credit goes to Ira-k for the help
The reason why I am asking because I am buying my parts from Jab-tech and the only thing that they dont have is the PT nuke;they only have Pentosin G11 and G12.

It will cost me another $10 to buy Pt nuke from petras..

I prefer to think of it as a 9:1 ratio so it doesn't matter what volumes I use. For every 9 measures of distilled water, I add 1 measure of G11 or G12 (I bought a gallon each from the local VW distributor). Slightly different than your 10:1.

I prefer to premix mine in an empty water jug before filling my loop.

My wc upgrades are coming soon I bought feser Distilled water but I do not have pentosin. So my question is where do you buy this stuff apart from online shops.

The Dawn already acts as a surfactant, so no need to add that and the glycerin.

Pentosin is VW antifreeze. You can get it from their parts shop (but by the gallon).

"VW"? you mean the german car maker?

yes, the german car maker. and adding pt nuke to something that already has glycol in it (like pentosin) is stupid. glycol already kills the buggies and prevents them from growing. all the people that add pt nuke with a glycol product are just adding chemicals for no reason or read something stupid on the internet.
I am pretty sure Audi uses it also. (would make sense)
Okay.. Thank you..that is good to know..Maybe I will just get the Pentosin g11 from an auto shop and use it as my coolant instead of using distilled + PT nuke.

hmmm

You will need distilled + pentosin g11 + pt nuke.

I'm pretty sure that the combo that most people here use.
