DMA mode # for IDE controller ...

321 2
I have an older mobo which only support UDMA 66, I have a master and a slave drive, both ultra ata 66 on the primary channel. When I check the UDMA mode in device manager, I'm at mode 3, should I not be at 4? I have 2 DVD drives on the secondary channel showing a UDMA mode of 1, again, shouldn't it be at 2? Any info or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks much!!

She's an oldie, but she still runs fairly well, a new rig will be in the works hopefully in 4-6 months.

Perhaps Tyan took the cheap way out and it's hardware related, mobo, for the slower transfer rates? Can not change anything in the Bios related to DMA which may help. Would a IDE controller card make a difference?

80 pin IDE cable, 40 pin only supports UDMA up to mode 2.
