Do i have enough Power?

565 Views 10 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  Fistof40k
Well since the HD 5850 is almost impossible to find, i want to go for a dual SLI set up. I currently have a GTX 260 192 core and I'm looking at a Gigabyte 216 core,

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-294-_-Product

i know that the cores will clock down to 192 but i need to know if my PSU will handle it. Current PSU is a 2007 Alienware Aurora 750w. With alienware being asses I have no idea about the ratings of my PSU.

So can my PSU handle a dual setup, or should i wait for the HD 5850 to become more available?

Thanks Much.

Its hard to know for sure.
Alienware is Dell, and Dell usually (in my experience) uses cheap OEM products.
More than likely would be fine, but, I am not entirely certain.

BTW, I am not even sure if you can SLI a core 216 and a 192. But, I could be wrong. Actually I probably am.

If it is this one then, you would be cutting it close.

A question asked by all men.

The Newton/Delta built 750W PSU used by Dell and Alienware are actually quite good. They have 58A on the 12V which is plenty.

I cant really help on whether you have enough power, but I do know that 260's do take alot more than the HD5000 range. I have spent the last few weeks researching much the same thing as i am in somewhat the same predicament, I decided to go with dual 5770's. I would actually reccommend that over a single 5850 as they are cheaper and better (Unless of course your going to CF 5850's in the future).

I also recently found a useful thread here (http://www.overclock.net/power-suppl...ply-guide.html) that shows how to use an extra psu. That one might be of help to you.

Of course he can SLI a Core 192 and a 216, like he said, the Core 216 will downgrade itself to 192 speeds.

That PSU would have more than enough for 2x 5770's.
It would even do 3 maybe even 4 with ease.

I think you should wait.
