I have an asus p5b deluxe wifi on the way and an e6600. I would like to overclock it to at least 3.0ghz. I am doing a lot of reading and i dont know if i understand this right but the fsb in the bios for this chip will be 266 and its x9 to equal the stock 2.4 ghz. So i would need to up my fsb to 333 to get my chip to 3.0 right? Now i think my ram will be a problem, it is 2 x 1 gb of kingston pc4300 533mhz value ram. So the bus on that is 266 right? will this kind of ram raise up to 333 on this motherboard for the 1:1 ratio or what settings do i need, im not sure about the dividers and voltage and timings
. I dont wanna hurt my new processor
.I know it would be better to have ddr2 667 or 800 but i cant afford that for awhile, and would like to overclock some for now. thanks.

Ok, i trying to understand the divider thing.......if i put the cpu fsb to 333 to get my 3.0 overclock and my ram to stay at the 266 that would be a 5/4 divider? Would it perform better the stock 2.4 ghz with the 1:1 ratio or at 3.0 ghz with the 5/4 ratio?

Let's see, you'll be asking for an extra 66mhz out of that DDR2 533, which it could possible do it but.........66mhz is quite a bit if those modules are not good grade ICs.

So, I'd say go for the 1:1 ratio and overclock it to 334fsb (for an even 3.0ghz, whereas 333 is 2,997mhz) and see if the RAM can do it with a 4-4-4-12 timings at 2.30v.

There are also some other settings in the P5B Deluxe after the 4-4-4-12 which is fallowed by 6-35-10-10-10-10....leave this alone and everything else.

Like this:

__________

Now, in that 3rd picture you see 4-30 but that's because my RAM can handle that so yours I'd say leave it at 6-35. Don't use the 4-4-4-8 but 4-4-4-12, m'kay?

In the first picture your CPU Frequency should read 334 and the DRAM Frequency to DDR2-668mhz for a 1:1 ratio. The rest.......

Since the ram is stock 533 isnt that 1066 DDR Effective? DDR 800 would have to be lowered to meet a certain ratio with the conroe fsb, correct? I don't think DDR 800 or 667 should be a prime concern when you don't have the money for it.

Kingston value ram is pwn.

The RAM is 266mhz for 533mhz effective, just like in DDR, DDR400 actually runs at 200mhz, so whenever you see:

DDR2 667 = 333mhz
DDR2 800 = 400mhz
DDR3 1066 = 533mhz

Meaning that 333mhz would be an overclocked CPU (from 266mhz fsb) up to 333mzh which will run in tandem with the RAM's frequency and the result will be RAM running at DDR2 667 speeds for a 1:1 ratio.

That is the reason why you need at least a minimum of DDR2 667 for a C2D set-up, early DDR2 and low speeds of DDR2 are not as good at the more recent speeds such as 667 and 800 but 1000, 1066 and beyond are mainly for over-clocking purposes.

Do you know of a good dual channel set of ddr2 667 or 800 that cost less than $200 ? Im looking but everything seems to be $200 or above. And if its 800 does it have to bee 1.8v to run on my p5b-d ?

You could pick up some Crucial stuff for $171 here:

Crucial

Its DDR600, the one with yellow heatsinks, and its got $100 of savings.

It would require 2.2V to run at DDR2-800

rams1234; for the price you're looking to spend, I'd say go for the GeIL Ultra DDR2 800 2GB kit for an extra $20 more, it'll be well worth it, DDR2 800 and CAS4 is good.

That's about it, the rest of the RAM choices don't look as good ad the GeIL.

It looks like the crucial stuff at that price was for 1 gb, im looking for 2 gb. And will the GeIL work, it says its 2.2v, but the p5b-d says 800 ddr2 needs to be 1.8v ?

The P5B Deluxe will boot the RAM with 5-5-5-15 timings and a 1.8v regardless of what RAM you put in it.

My G.Skill specs are for 4-4-4-12 @ 2.1v and they booted as above but manually I had to set the timings that they're recommended for. So either RAM will work.
