Nvidia never released the bios updates for quad. The figured they could profit more by making the 7xxi series.

I've stayed away from Nvidia chipsets ever since.

It was more that Intel changed the microcode on the CPUs. The ES chips where working fine, then Intel changed some of the code which caused NVIDIA to delay their 700i series while they reworked it.

But I have seen some 680i bnoards supporting Yorkfield quads, like the XFX 680i. Dont ask me how, I just saw someone post proof, so i checked their CPU support, and the Q9X50 was on the list.
