1. Yes they do have the Double Lifetime warranty.
2. No they don't have a step up
3. XXX, Alpha Dog, or any other special named cards (like EVGA SSC, BFG's MaxOC, Sapphire Toxic, HIS IceQ) are all higher binned chips, meant to get better overclocks.

I agree with Nuclearcrap & SuperK don't get the XXX edition if it costs that much more.

I'd wait, the RV790 chips are supposed to be a good amount faster for the current HD4870 prices.

And they are rumored to have better stock coolers.
