If you bough the MAC form a retailer and it still has warranty take it into the shop and have them fix it.

I recommend that once you get this problem solved, to put some virus protection software on that Mac. And in fact, that may be the only way to get rid of it. Mac's are not "free from the virus problem" as most people tend to believe.

There are differences between viruses and trojans. Its those that fail to realize that, that believe when Apple says "no viruses" it doesnt mean no trojans, spyware, etc. Yes Apples are safer and no they are not invincible from attacks. I would suggest backing everything up and what you do it put the OS X disk into the Mac and reboot. Upon reboot hold the "c" key and it will take you into the install screen. From here you can reformat and reinstall the OS. Good luck.

Actually OSX is basically <anything malicious proof>, 4 macs here, for the last 2.5 years with not a virus in sight or anything else for that matter. But like anything if you use torrents and/or do other risky stuff, your bound to get something.

How did the file get there, do you know?. Before formatting, try and boot into Safe Mode and delete the file.
It's very unlikely that it is a trojan, and particularly if it is in a windows format (IE .exe) and your sure of this, it can't hurt you.

Also, how large is the file and what file type?

And yes, downloading free anti-virus for OSX might be a good idea. Scan your computer.
