I need something that will work on Server 2012 so I can get out of 1024x768 video mode. Could someone perhaps provide me with a modded driver file? (I have hacked some audio drivers in the past to work on windows 7/8 but I forget how I did that)
This is my modification to some official Intel's driver. I modified it so it can support higher resolutions and hardware acceleration. DirectDraw and Direct3D are also enabled. Basically, I have copied registry settings from 6.11 catalyst and pasted them into this driver.
I recommend setting 16 bit desktop color mode, as this card is very old and has low onboard memory.

Hey timjosten, I also have a box with a ES1000 (RN50) running Windows Server 2012R2 so I tried the drivers in your link on it. Getting past the unsigned driver part went fine but then it said "wrong version of windows." I have never tried modding drivers so I have no idea where to begin. Is there a way to make the Server 2012 driver you created work on Server 2012R2?
@stjoc1811, Win8 and later OSes does not support XDDM drivers. These were the drivers designed for 2000/XP family. So there is no way to use this driver for anything newer than 2008R2. Sorry.
The RN50 is a very niche, server-based, DirectX6 PCI IGP, so it's not surprising they stopped providing support for it.
AMD also had a significant amount of architecture overhauls, both software and hardware side since then.
The majority of servers get decommissioned in the first 5 years of its time span, and those who don't, generally have a need to run the same legacy software. So I think AMD dropping support for it in 2014, 7 years after its release, and considering the other factors, is very fair.
Sorry to bump an old thread. Found this thread via Google. Any solutions if any that this can work with Server 2012 yet? Can this driver be modified in such a way that 2012 will just install it to give access to increased resolutions etc...
DESCRIPTION
An HP ProLiant server configured with an on-board ATI ES1000 Video Controller and running Microsoft Windows Server 2012 may be unable to display in "16 bit color: maximum resolution of 1600 x 1200" or "32 bit color: maximum resolution of 1280 x 1024."
The ATI ES1000 video controller is only supported by the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter driver in Windows Server 2012.
DETAILS
On an HP ProLiant server configured with an on-board ATI ES1000 Video Controller , when clicking Advanced Settings under Control Panel\Appearance\Display\Screen Resolution\Advanced Settings, the "Adapter" tab displays the Adapter Type as Microsoft Basic Display Adapter. The Maximum Resolution for the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter is 1024 x 768.
HP has no plans for ATI ES1000 video driver support for Windows Server 2012.
If a server does not have a Windows Display Driver Model-compliant graphics driver, Windows Server 2012 uses Microsoft Basic Display Adapter as the default adapter.
Does Intel offer WDDM graphics drivers for older graphics controllers?
WDDM graphics drivers are not available because of hardware limitations in the older Intel® graphics controllers. The design of the older graphics controllers finalized before Microsoft released details and specifications on WDDM drivers along with the Aero user interface. This action resulted in hardware limitations for the graphics performance and memory capabilities when attempting to run a WDDM driver on Windows Vista OS with these older graphics controllers.
The only workaround I've found is using RDC (Remote Desktop Connection) to connect to the server in question, then the resolution is normal.
