I am going to be moving in the next month or so, and I just realized I am going to have to figure out which type of service I want.

I have a very wide selection of DSL providers I can choose from. I have, however, used DSL by SBC for the past 6 years and its been great. Okay, maybe a few draw backs.

- Typically average download speeds.
- ALWAYS goes out when there is bad weather of any kind.
+ Its cheap

I've been doing some research and I have two options in the cable department.
My first choice is Comcast, I can get up to 16mbps for only $40.00 a month. I think its a great deal, its over triple the speeds I am used to.

I am torn between the two. I can get DSL for half the price, and it has always done what I needed with very few drawbacks. Cable, on the other hand is double the price as DSL and has many many more ups.

What would you do in my situation?

Is the apartment where you'll be moving, or is that where you are now? If it's where you are now, where are you moving?

I'm moving into a house, I have not moved yet. Lol

I could always use faster speeds. I plan on doing a lot more multimedia when I have my own place.

Do you know what's available at the house?

Yes, either is available. I have called, and I have a confirmation from both.

I mean as far as what companies offer them.

With DSL, distance from the hub is the main factor. Before I moved to the boonies, I was about a block away from an SBC hub, and my speeds were always at or over the advertised max. However, other people just a few blocks away couldn't get the same speeds with the same package.

Cable is more dependent on the number of users in your area. Fewer users = better speeds. If you move in to a highly populated area with lots of cable users, your speeds won't be all that good unless Comcast has bothered to upgrade the wiring/switching for that particular sector.

DSL companies I have considered: DSL, Verizon, Vonage.

Cable companies I have considered: Comcast, charter.

All of the above are available.

OMG seriously?

Cable, hands down.

Unless you are running a server, which is against most cable companies TOS.

Comcast can be a tricky bastard but if you get a 6 month promo rate, after it expires if you go into the Comcast shop and complain ask to talk to a customer retention specialist you can get it dropped again. They also try to screw you on setup fees, etc. Always better to negotiate in person.

Vonage isn't a DSL carrier, only digital voice. Did you check what speeds are available from the others?
