Don't worry about static. I've been working with computers for 20 years and I've never had a problem with static. I just removed my GPU shroud and heat sink to resink and I did it on carpet with socks on and no grounding strap. Rip that puppy out, remove the shroud (plastic cover) and get to blowing out not only the fan but also the heat sink. Dust collects inside the fins as well as the fan and will block airflow. Just don't set the card on the carpet.

Yeh the deal with the static is it's very rare to occur. But if ur cautious just get a wristband for it. That and with the compressed air, make sure that you dont hold it upside down because you dont want to freeze anything with that ****. Even if you did i'm sure it would work but i have seen frost damage before and it isn't pretty.
