Just saw this

Gibbo from OCUK received an update from ASUS that confirms AMD's Ryzen platform has issues with high-frequency DDR4 memory. There were some rumors about this and here we have the first hard confirmation that there's indeed a DDR4 memory compatibility problem.

AMD reportedly focused all its efforts on improving CPU performance and put DDR4 support on the backburner. Motherboard maker ASUS reports you can use DDR4 with a frequency of up to 3200MHz if you populate just two DIMMS on a motherboard, but if you want to use all four DIMMs you can't clock the memory higher than 2400MHz.

This issue is expected to be resolved via a BIOS microcode update, the ETA for this is 1-2 months.

Oh well.

As long as it's a thing fixable with a BIOS update it's hardly a big deal.

At any rate, it's still over JEDEC memory speeds, so not technically an issue.

NOW we know why everyone was using that crappy memory in the leaked benchmarks:

Or it could be they just don't know what they're doing. LoL.

Click bait thread title. AMD already said they just haven't had time to work on the DDR4 support. Intel had the same issue with Skylake. Most brands and speeds didn't work on motherboard release bios. I know two of my lga 1151 boards needed a bios update to support the ram I bought.

That's a lie, Intel launch was spotless and everything worked 100%.

Not really an issue so long as it gets taken care of, I'm still going to get the 1600X.

AMD feels confident to ship 3 Ghz Corsair 16 GB memory kits (2 x 8 GB) out to reviewers, that goes in line with what Asus is saying, up to 3.2 Ghz on two DIMMS for now, that's reasonable. If it's a firmware tweak problem, then great.

I wonder if that is what this little tidbit is about too

Some drop of info from the AIDA dev:
Many review sites have problems, as a lot of boards have buggy BIOS etc, which the manufacturers trying to iron out as fast as they can.
Plus there is some strange things going on with the Ryzens cache/memory latency, it's very high. The speed is great, but the latency is not so much, sources yet unknown.
I do remember some of the leaks showing ryzen with oddly high latency

Not really. If this is all Intel can grasp on, they're screwed.
Intel? What? Gibbo and ASUS = Intel now?

It's kind of silly how hypocritical people can get on OCN.

People have been criticizing Intel for, all this time, not providing this arbitrary amount of performance apparently everyone expected, but completely downplay the fact that AMD's newest and most badass ecosystem ever can't handle frequencies Intel's could over a year ago.

I know, Ryzen is INCREDIBLE value, but to say "this is fine"... I mean, i'd have to downclock my memory, which came out over a year ago, just to use it with Ryzen because, apparently, either the IMC or the motherboards can't handle it, even the $250+ ones. I mean, talk about progress!

Maybe i'm too cynical and reasonable a consumer to understand all of this. Reviews will tell the true story, but i'm very hesitant to normalize non-progress.
