DVI output of onboard GPU not working

1772 Views 6 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  bomfunk
If I have the analog VGA cable plugged in, I get the picture just fine. But if I use the DVI cable, the monitor simply remains blank, even with the VGA cable completely unplugged - it seems to be using the analog output as default all the time. I simply have no clue how to get the DVI output working, anyone know how to do this?

Yea, it is. It definitely does have one, and I've used it before and it's worked fine.
have you tried unplugging the card or have tested the cable?

Yes, I have tried unplugging the onboard graphics card.

The cable works, it outputs a picture fine when I used the DVI output of a card, and the GPU apparently works since the analog output is fine.

Looking at the monitor, I see it is was release with and without the DVI connector. My mistake.

Looking at the manual for your MOBO, shows that the VGA output and the DVI output are independant, (controlled by independant display controllers) so output on the VGA connector does not necessarily mean that the DVI controller is working.

I also did some looking re: ATI 3300 IG and ubuntu. Apparantly this DVI problem used to be/and possibly still is a problem with the Drivers for ubuntu.

Some of the posts I read in the Ubuntu forums were somewhat old, but some from Sept/October this yesr suggest there are driver fixes available. Not knowing that much about your OS, possibly someone else with more knowledge can point you in the right direction on the different drivers available to correct the issue.

Well, I don't currently even have Ubuntu, I'm installing Gentoo (WIP). I don't think this is an OS-related issue at all, I don't get anything on the screen even when POSTing, and it didn't work back when I had Ubuntu, either.

Thanks for the help though.
