So rather than waiting for DX10, I've decided to snag an eVGA 7950gt now and then do a step-up deal once the DX10 cards come out... is this probable? Will the 8x series be out before my 90day step-up time runs out? Also I won't have to return the game along with the card, correct? And I take it I'll have to pay the shipping to send the card to them as well as for the dx10 card they send to me? Has anyone here dealt with eVGA's step-up program before, and if so could you provide some info?

November 8th is the launch date.
You won't have to return the games, they're yours too keep.
I believe they offer cross-shipping to people who are stepping up within the US so you might not have to pay any shipping. You might be put on a wait list though, not too sure on that one

Dude, just wait. Honestly, it's not worth it. You'd get it faster if you just ordered it first day, than if you trade up...cause those get like....last priority basically...lol

They're coming out in about 3 weeks. Just get the 7950GT now and easily step up but if you don't want to pay the $6 or whatever $ for the shipping then just wait

(edit) Ok nvm, just wait for it Your X1600 can still last you for 3 more weeks

well another issue is that i only have so much cash to spend on my comp ATM... i wont have enough cash for a dx10 card until after christmas... so this way i can have a 7950gtx until i have enough cash for dx10 (and who knows, maybe the prices will drop after christmas- and my 7950gt will still be good for $280)

Buddy of mine used the step up program to go 7800GT-->7900GTX. The waiting list took over 2 weeks, then shipping was another few days.

Wait it out, man.

aren't the prices for em around $400-500? I really don't have the money to get it opening day... I might as well upgrade to a 7950gt and use it until after christmas (also is the 90 day period from the date on the invoice to the day you request a step-up??)

With step-up, you have to buy the step-up card @ eVGA's listed price. So say you buy a 7950GT for 300. When they come out, newegg sells the DX10 card for 500, but eVGA lists it as 600. Then if you do step-up, you can only get the DX10 card for 600 (you'll pay 300 after trading in your 7950GT, though). I believe this is how eVGA's step-up program works.

Processor still probably wont be able to keep up *chuckle*

Not a bad rig to upgrade to considering what you have. But still, there is pretty much no processor READILY AVAILABLE right now that can handle all of the power G80 has. Even the 7950 is a lot for just about any game. Especially at 17" (1280) resolution.

Evga won't do cross shipping for step-ups. I'm pretty sure they still make you pay for shipping and any rebates you cashed in.
