It never fails the 8800GTX is the first DX10 card right, when DX10 does come out the 8800GTX will probley suck you will have to run it on lower settings.
It's never end's so to run the DX10 games on higher you will need the 8900GTX or what ever.

Based on???

I think ATI's first gen DX10 card (R600 based) will outperform the 8800 series, but the 8800 will be no means 'suck'. DX10 will be out in abuot three months (Vista is still scheduled for January), and the 8800GTX will still be one of the top dogs.

Plus, I don't see an 8900 for a while

Yea, I don't see what you're basing the proclaimed "suck"-ing from. But I doubt it will.

If I were to guess. He's saying that by the time games actually start being made for DX10, the 8800GTX will be outdated. And since the G80 was made before the games how can we really know how well it will handle such games?

So in all he's saying that when we start seeing lots of DX10 games being made we will also see a graphic card that will put the G80 to shame. Of course he bases this off of no real studying. Chances are he is just looking at real world examples. Games just recently started to use duo core. Now we have quad core which will probably pwn dual core. Of course that doesn't mean dual core will suck anytime soon.

I'm sure we all know how some people think. If we don't have the best what we have must suck.

Well, I can already tell Crysis is going to be a classic. So I'm not really thinking anything will be outdated.

The bolded comment.. I am sure both nVidia and ATI got detailed information about DX10, otherwise they would not develop these cards (they couldn't have). Thus, the cards will handle DX10 instructions just fine (give and take a couple of bugs). Since it's a standard instruction set, the fact that DX10 games don't exist yet it not relevant.

Regarding Vista: The version for business users will come out on November 30, while the versions for the general public will come out in 'early 2007'
http://software.silicon.com/os/0,390...9163834,00.htm

My take on this is that they're all but done (for sure with the business server), and maybe tweak a little bit for other users.... In any case, to assure sufficient stock, mass production should be on it's way for the business version and start fairly soon for the other versions

8800GTX can beat a crossfire 1950 setup by as much as 2:1 - it doesn't exactly suck
Not to say that I would buy one - I'm waiting for the release of DX10 to get a DX10 card

I think 2:1 is a bit high an estimate....

A single 8800GTX is about on par with Crossfire X1950XTX's (3DMark06 of around 11,000).

Thus, SLI 8800GTX's ill be about 60% better than the Crossfire X1950XTX's, and not 100%.

Still a pretty darn good increase in performance. And I don't think we've seen the real performance of the 8800GTX yet... (non-optimized drivers, no use of DX10...)

Ya - I definitely read the benchie setups wrong
a single 8800GTX can reach scores (not all scores) of twice what a 1950 can - not crossfired 1950's

Sure it will be better than the cards that are out now the word suck I ment will not be up to par with the games.

Look at what Oblivian and other games did to at the time current video cards.

I am sure it will happen to the 8800 when the good DX10 games come out, Crysis will most likley have to be ran on lower settings until a better card comes along.
Have you seen any of crysis videos it's choppy as heck with the current cards.
I guess you can run 3 8800GTX in sli that should do it for $2000 in cards, LOL

6800GTs can still handle games pretty well.. its going to be quite some time until the 8800gtx "sucks" about 5 years...

And crysis can be ran on 1 G80, there are videos showing ingame footage claiming to being ran on 1 G80.. and they are high quality.

And you forget quad cores are almost out... Crysis takes advantage of that. 1 QX6700 and 1 G80 is plenty for Crysis...

Well yea, of course they'll eventually get old but when has that ever NOT happened? I think you're just bringing up old things that happened and even if it does get outdated, they'll come out with an 8900GTX and a 9800GTX, you've just got to wait for it.

Either way, its inevitable that the card will be outdated.

Hi Guys,

Will we ever see these DX10 cards run on Windows XP?

Only if someone develops a simulator... and performance will be a lot less that way.

Didn't DailyTech run their benchies on an XP rig? It was at least on DX9 games - and it didn't exactly result in terrible performance

Thanks Chozart. I really needed to know that. So buying a DX10 card will mean buying Windows Vista too. Quite an investment.
