e6600 OC -- passed 12 hours on prime but BSOD on software installation

320 Views 4 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  2thAche
As mentioned in title, my second PC passes 12 hours on prime but just gave me a BSOD on a simple software installation. Anyone have ideas on what the cause could be?

Some system info:

e6600 @ 3.2ghz (8 x 400FSB)
1.425 vcore in bios (1.384 in cpu-z)
1.4v on mobo (nForce 680i)

Thanks in advance.

What prime testing did you use? Small FFT's, Large FFT's or Blend?

I used small FFT's, the one testing "some RAM", but I also passed memtest for 12 hours.
I'm not super familiar with Intel setups (someone correct me if I'm wrong) but if your passing small FFT and memtest, but still getting BSOD's, I would say you need a little more voltage on the chipset or north-bridge.

I would try bumping from 1.4 to 1.45 (or what ever the smallest jump is) and try to install whatever program you were installing.
