what a joke people telling me a quad is better. i sold my e8600 oc 4.4ghz for this q9450 i can oc it to 3.4ghz. every thing ran faster with my e8600. i think i might have to sell this and try a q9650. or save my money and buy another e8600.

Shouldn't have done it in the first place...were you actually expecting stuff to run faster on that quad than on a 4.4ghz dual? What apps do you use that use quad-core? I'm expecting the answer "none"...

i have no idea but i was reading a lot and people in here were saying a quad q6600 was better then a e8500. i know i had the e8600 so i figured ill get one better a q9450. bad mistake. so any help what quad would i have to get to come close to my e8600.

Wow, an e8600 with a 4.4GHz 24/7 clock, yeah I would not have traded that - unless it was for a 9450 that was proven to clock pretty high (and I had a board capable of high clocks with a quad). You could probably sell the 9450 for $250 or so - maybe $279. But if you were to I would do it ASAP before Core i7 and before any more 9550 price drops.

Hm...I though quads were faster.

Are you running xp or vista?

I put yesterday a trade offer, my q66 for e8500 or e8400 E0

3.4ghz is low for a quad really 45nm my q6600 hits 3.7 easy and will do 4ghz if i wanna run close to 1.5 vcore.
what does it matter what os im using?

I can see where you were lead astray on some of these threads, I too have been following the quad versus dual debate, and it seems like most people are just telling you to buy exactly what they bought. I think everyone got reeled into the idea of a quad core, I mean it does sound like a logical progression, but in reality it is just the mhz that matter. I mean there is always a trade off somewhere, if they could both clock the same, quad would be the way to go, but there is a speed at which a higher clocked dual will beat a lower clocked quad even at multi-threaded apps. Since games can basically make no use of quad cores now and into the foreseeable future (yeah I'm looking at you far cry 2), u will always be better off whichever clocks higher. I kind of have my eye on core i7, for the chance that that they can clock really high, guess we'll find out in the next couple days.

I hope you didn't expect your overclock on a Q9450 to come anywhere close to your old E8600. Your 4.4GHz overclock was a 32% overclock. Your 3.4GHz overclock is a 27.5% overclock. This seems about right to me. And I wouldn't expect things to run faster with a slower clock, but I would expect things to run smoother thanks to having four cores.

If you want a quad to approach the clock speeds you achieved with your old E8600, you'll want a Q9650. I would wait until the price comes down to the Q9550's neighborhood.

I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you. I'm anticipating from epic fails in the overclock department. I predict their 2.66GHz chip will overclock slightly worse than the Q9450 on air. The 3.2GHz chip should be a solid overclocker, though.

We're both stupid enough.
I forgot on sig rig

Xp runs faster than vista, but i wouldn't ask if you would trade quad for quad, and wouldn't offer my q66 for c2d if you were on xp...

So, yes...I kinda hope someone will trade me one e85 or e84

Sorry for stupidity

i think your right , im going to hold off for a wail and pick up a q9650.
but if i put up a poll witch cpu should i buy e8500 or q6600. everyone would say buy the q6600. at lease 80% would.

Yeah that is kinda what I was thinking, but wishful thinking i guess, or at least i want to be sure that they can't reach like 4.2-4.5, once i get confirmation that they won't I'll pull the trigger on an e8x00 most likely. Figure i can probably hold off like 24-48 hours to see the benches.

I would have done it. You need @ least a 3.8GHz Quad to mach a 4.4GHz in games and stuff. 3.4GHz is just to low for a Quad for you point of view. Also i would save money for a Q9650 cause they seem to clock well to 4-4.2Ghz with air.
