ECS Elitegroup A780GM-A RAM Issues

A while back, I got the above mentioned mobo for my first build, and was having issues with my sound, mostly because I'm apparently ******ed (The screw thingies that keep the contacts on the bottom of the mobo from touchign the case were not installed, and it created interference, and, among other things, poor sound quality). So, I installed the screw thingies and hooked everything back up-but it won't boot. And when I first got it, it wouldn't boot, which was due to my RAM not being inserted right (Actually, I think it just doesn't like me. The RAM was inserted perfectly-I just had to reinsert it a few times and it worked). So, I'm assuming my RAM is the issue-It's 2x2GB of Corsair DDR2 at 800MHz, which should work with the mobo (And it did, for a while there), but it doesn't. So, any ideas on how to get my RAM to work, or possibly what else could be the issue?
Oh, also, it sorta boots. The CD drive whirrs, all the fans turn on, and some of my USB devices power up. But there's no video or sound-it is the exact same thing that happened before. Just, you know, it likes me less this time.

reset bios. insert both sticks in the yellow slot. try 1 stick at a time. if it doesn't work, update your bios. what's your psu anyway?
PSU is a cheap 600W one. Also, tried one stick. And yellow slots. And one stick in a yellow slot. And one stick in the other yellow slot. And the CMOS reset doesn't work.
And my BIOS is updated, last I checked. But srsrly, how do I update my BIOS when it won't boot?

hehe, i was asking if you have done it before. i never had any issues esp the audio ones. hmm have you tried swapping parts? like vga and cpu then?

is the hsf even spinning?
HSF?
Every fan spins, and as I said, I hear the CD drive and the HDD.
Also, is there a difference between the red and the yellow? I had used the red RAM slots last time I got it to work.
maybe. it's states in the manual. but i think either will be. sounds like a dying mobo to me. but just try swapping the parts with a friend first.
The mobo did this previously, when I first built it. And its only about a month old D=
who knows?
can you borrow a ram at least? have you tried using the onboard graphics? or borrow a cpu? the psu is fine, since you did mention it powers everything including the usb devices.

Yes, I've tried both gfx, and I haven't gotten around to getting other RAM. But for god's sake, the stuff works with my mobo-LegitReviews has theirs pictured with the stuff I've got D=

what i mean is, either component could be defective already.

it's just between those three. i dunno what else could it be.

that's just very unlucky of you. hope some guys here can help.

Well, thank you for the help. But it worked fine this morning-I think nothing is dead.
like i said, it might be a case of a dying mobo.

my friend had similar symptoms before the mobo died on him. sometimes booting and sometimes not. he was even afraid to turn it off thinking that it may never boot again. hehehe

Pull you're ram out again, and re-seat it... use only the yellow slots for two sticks.... starting at the yellow slot closest to the CPU. Make sure you feel the ram "click" in and the release arms close on the ram. The ram is a b**ch to get locked in on the board. Beleive me.. been there. If you try one stick of ram... use in (yellow) slot 3 (closest to the processor)... did you install the Mobo speaker? are you getting any beep codes?

Edit: just re-read your original post... also pull the plug on you 4 pin +12V and re plug it... your CPU may not be getting power, but everything else will seem to run straight off the PSU.
Install the mobo speaker? Erm, no, I thought it sorta did that on its own *feels stupid*
How might I do that?
Also, tried the RAM thing to no avail D=
in the plastic bag that came with the mobo, there a small black buzzer speaker with a short 1 to 1-1/2" pigtail. It has a 4 pin plug on one end. There is a speaker header on the board, right between the sata connectors and the IDE/Floppy cable plugs... closer to the floppy header. plug the 4 pin plug into this header. power on, and count the beeps.
Is this the thing you're talking about?

because other than the mobo and a few assorted cables, that was all that was in the box.

Nope... the speaker looks more like a flat topped mushroom... it was in the bag with the screws and standoffs.. I'm not sure what you took a picture of.
Nor am I to, to be honest. It was in the box, and I got nothing that loked like a speaker. Also, why is it that all the pictures of this mobo have the RAM in the red slots?

Marketing??? so that the name on the RAM can be seen????.... Beleive me... ECS says: Ram order: Fill slots 3-4-1-2 in that order.. Page 15 of the manual... board won't POST any other config. my original post was wrong 1 module is slot 3 ...1st yellow slot closest to CPU....

can't tell you why you got not speaker.. but it would help in trouble shooting.

mine does

it's just a guide for optimal performance with ram.

but i think it really depends. hehe
