Battery life and being even easier to get Linux on it would actually make this thing viable. I just don't get why Google can't drop ego and release a real Linux machine. With all their connections and cash they'd pretty much kill MS and Apple if they backed a distro or 2 on their hardware.

Do we know if these are subsidized by google? If that's the case, I don't blame them for wanting to put their OS on it so they can track everything you do. That's their job after all, amassing knowledge so they can serve you ads.

Real Linux distros can be put on it but it's not as easy as getting rid of Windows from a laptop.

No clue, but most of the other Chromebooks have been extremely locked down. Some of the other chromebooks have been hacked to allow windows installations, but it's never easy and driver support will be hit-or-miss.

I personally see this as a first attempt tp make a "premium" product with elegant design and nice specs aimed against Apple, even in its price tag. The problem I see at this approach is that the Chrome OS is not nearly as useful or feature filled as the Mac OS, so it fails in delivering a superior product.

Putting Chrome OS on hardware of that quality is sort of like buying a Ferrari and insisting on running off-brand 87 octane gasoline in it.

Unless you put a real OS on there, it's not much more than a $1,500 paperweight.

Very sleek and nice, but its pricepoint is a big factor to consider, as this one is trying to compete against Ultrabooks.

The price is a joke for Chrome OS. Google should just stick to their budget 300$ chromebooks, because Chrome OS doesn't warrant more than that in terms of price.

Isn't like the only software you can install is Chrome-Google based?

Yes, it's very limited. There's only a 32gb and a 64gb model too......for that much money I'd expect some 256gb SSDs

Very good analogy
