Energy Use while folding

I did this test as I want to keep folding but cost seemed to be too high, to monitor the power usage I purchased this.

I am going to do a 12 hour run from 9:30am to 9:30 pm, my cost of electricity is .17p per unit, I will be folding with two GPU clients, and two SMP clients, both of my monitors will be switched off for the test, apart from checking progress (normal activity).

Below is what my components are running at:-

2 GPU CLEINTS Folding GTX295

Both running at:-

670/999/1444
Stock Voltage

2 SMP Clients folding Q6600

Running at:-

3419.7 MHz
1.4v

Will update in 12 hours

Ditto, but TBH as you are sitting at #80, you already have a good idea as to whether you can afford to fold or not.
If your power bill is not smacking you around now I hope you continue no matter what you find out.

My electric bill has been very high, to the point where I have just been able to pay it (that was with a 550w supply), I want clarification on the cost and then I can make an informed decision.

On a very positive note, surprisingly my power supply is only drawing 420watts.

That's not good.
Hope you are able to continue, at least parttime.

Generally a single rig eats no more energy 24/7 than a meal out. I was able to cut my electric bill in other locations and with 2 machines going 24/7 it went up $13 a month.

Okay so the 12 hours are up.

The results are better than I had predicated, power consumption from the PSU at its highest was 480w.

12hrs = 4.828KWH = .82p

£1.64 per day to help fight for a great cause is nothing, will work out around £50 per month. I am going to stop the SMP clients folding and do another 12 hours and see how much that affects the folding cost.

I am also in the middle of moving electrical company, which will drop my electricity down to 11p per Kwh, which will then work out at around £35 per month.

Hope this information is useful for some people.

I will update (at some point) without the SMP clients folding.

Oh, brother. The power bill for this month is going to be in the stratosphere, as this is a HD4870 that uses more power, and I have to run the AC unit on top of it to keep it below 80C.

Folding is turning into a rich man's hobby, and not so much about "spare" cycles anymore.
