The economic crisis has been tought for nearly every business worldwide, perhaps best evidenced by the number of corporate spats we've seen develop lately as everyone gets more and more protective of their respective turfs. While Intel and Nvidia have been at an epic war of powerpoint presentations, fewer disputes have been bigger or longer running than the one between Intel and its more direct competition AMD.

I'm sorry, but don't the other ten companies sell a whole lot more crap and products than AMD does?
How are these manufacturers comparable? DRAM v Processors ???

Pshh total crap. I hate PCworld. Bad magazines with crap articles.
I believe the article needs to specifically states computer chip sales... it seems they're comparing overall sales and whatnot.
When ones says "chips" they usually lump everything together; CPUs, RAM, GPU, NB, etc. They even take into account non-PC related chips. In that "global" sense then yeah, AMD is not that big.
Hmm, one would think that AMD has more "recession-friendly" chips and would be doing better.
Meh. Thats a horrible way of comparing companies.
Yawn...another pointless list.

I don't see how the most confusing CPU maker in the industry deserves this...Or the one charging the most for their highend stuff...idunno. I guess I don't understand award awarders, they must not care if it's easy to figure out what you really want from them. Meh.

what are you talking about? the i7 920 is cheep as all hell, its the current x58 mobos that cost a lot.

i5 is going to be very affordable.

There are a ton of very good price/performance chips from Intel, the 8400? the 6600?

Intel beat amd in almost every price bracket before phenom II and even with its introduction, its still close competition.

Yeah...ok, when you can buy an i7 920 for 200 bucks, call me.

Better yet, how 'bout an i7 965 that's three figures?

They're expensive, they brought out two sockets for no reason other than to confuse newbies, and they have a tendency for being a dick to their employees. Not company of the year by a mile.
pretty hard to take that article with any validity. kind of like a poll someone on here did about video games and mood changing. they asked if it changes your mood, but dont clarify on whether is for better or worse. which is misleading to ppl viewing the results.

there are also 775 boards that are outrageously priced, so thats a moot point. i got a 1366 system becuase the cpu (920) and the board (reniassance) where the same prices as a q9550 and a rampage( give or take some since i bought them). my reniassance board with 4 PCI E slots was around 300, the same as the 775 board i was looking at, so its pretty much tit for tat. its all comes down to personal preference and the budget.

Which two sockets are you talking about? Increasing pin count takes gold, literally

He means the i5 vs i7, 1166 vs 1366 respectively.

The article is more like, which company that makes computer parts made the most money. Not necessarily chips, because there is no specification on how much each company made by producing whatever type of chip they make. Just a short article saying these guys make money invest in them. *Waits for stock prices to go up.*

AMD really needs be more competitive with Intel. I don't remember the last time AMD was #1 since the A64 vs P4.
