[Engadget] Apple's redesigned iPod shuffle hits 4GB, talks to you, updated with video

Bam, another Apple rumor vindicated. Apple just doubled the capacity of its iPod shuffle to 4GB while ditching the control wheel entirely. The new design keeps the clip and adds VoiceOver -- a new feature that gets around the lack of display by telling you which song is playing and who performs it at the touch of a button on the earbud cable. It'll also call out your playlists and let you navigate to others. Available in black or silver for $80 and your claim to what Apple calls the "world's smallest music player." Check the video tutorial after the break.

For those interested in buying a new iPod without spending a fortune.

Sounds like something that will be cool for the first 5 minutes, and then frustrating as hell >_>

I wonder how they did that. Oh wait, this is also the world's only digital music player that lacks a screen and controls.

edit: CALL? COOL! I'm half asleep.

Wait so if I like ... name my songs with swear words and weird gestures, will it actually pronounce them? Or what about songs where the names aren't exactly good English?
What if you want to use a different pair of headphones?
The concept is cool, but when it actually comes down to using it, it'll get very frustrating, very fast.

Is this a joke?

...

I can't even begin what to say about this.
I think Apple is taking the whole simple/minimal design gimmick a bit too far.

It's $80 for a minimalistic design that you control with your voice...and it's 4GB. It's not that bad.

No buttons + voice-control that is useless without using proprietary headphones = THAT BAD.

Controlled with voice...lol...until you get in a public place with noise, then your shuffle becomes an $80 paperweight. Yeah...brilliant apple, just brilliant. There's a reason this hasn't been done before, and it's because if there wasn't that apple logo on it, it wouldn't sell.

And don't forget the fact that you're stuck with those apple headphones, which sound like crap, and that's putting it mildly.

Then just buy new ones, lol. That's what I do when I get a new iPod.

Then your new shuffle doesn't work. You're missing the point here. It NEEDS those headphones to work.

Why do you even buy an ipod? Seems like they're always overpriced for what you get.
