InstantAction streams full games to any web browser, gives indie developers a business model (video)

Quote:

Look out, OnLive -- you've got company. InstantAction is having their coming out party at GDC, and we stopped by for a lengthy chat about the technology, its future and the hopes / dreams of the company. Put simply (or as simply as possible), IA has developed a browser-based plug-in that allows full games to be played on any web browser so long as said browser is on a machine capable of handling the game. In other words, you'll still need a beast of a machine to play games like Crysis, but the fact that you can play them on a web browser opens up a new world of possibilities for casual gamers and independent developers. You'll also be notified before your download starts if your machine and / or OS can handle things, with recommendations given on what it would take to make your system capable.

There are multiple videos included demonstrating functionality.

I still prefer to have all of my games running locally all on my own hardware regardless of my internet connection. Until somebody invents that, I'm keeping out of gaming.
Oh wait...

I found the second video even more interesting though, where he just embedded the game like a YouTube video in a blog, and anyone could play the 20 minute trial just from that.

Will check out the vids when I get home. This sounds potentially interesting, but is the gameplay based on internet quality as Onlive's is?

The quality is that of full games, so there is no compromise in visual fidelity.

Eh? last time i played an instantaction was it was techincaly like the same way Battlefield heroes and quake live worked through browser plugins etc. one of the games was quite awesome and reminded me of trials 2 xD

i dont understand whats so different about it now other then the obvious new page, besides, InstantAction was out way before quakelive and battlefield heroes came onto the block

gonna have to do some more research to see whats *new*

edit: hmmmm, looks like there jumping on the facebook train... there one game they had on facebook was basicly a singleplayer game, now if they can implement there multiplayer FPS games into facebook that would be kickass plus this developer stuff seems very intresting hmmmm
