We're not quite sure what sort of black magic it's worked to make it happen, but it looks like Amazon is really taking the art of firmware updates to a new level with the latest upgrade for the Kindle. Not only does it finally add native PDF support (which would have gotten folks rightly excited on its own), but it promises to boost battery life by a full 85 percent.

...85% and not not 8.5%?

An engineer should get fired for taking so long to implement the update.

Exactly what i thought. If that isn't a typo, someone did something massively wrong.

That or it just tells you that they REALLY wanted to churn out the Kindle ASAP.
How bad was the battery before?

I've considered getting one of these but I think I'd have to read a book on it before I could be sure it would better than a paper book for the experience.
is it even worth having one of those? i heard you cant even get books like harry potter or lord of the rings for it??
I considered it but:
1) expensive
2) not offered in canada
This is pretty good news. Unfortunately I refuse to buy a Kindle until it supports expandable memory slots of some sort. The internal just isn't enough for me.

Im torn between the Nook and the Kindle.
Because I have the kindle on my iphone, I already have like 20 books and would hate to loose them. But the Nook looks soooo damn nice.

They have an agreement with some mobile carrier, the use is free to the customer, though it's probably included somewhere in the price of the device and the book purchases.

Kindle is offered in Canada as of last week. Reason number one is still reason enough for me not to buy it though.

I think the biggest problem is being able to keep your books over long periods of time. Some one needs to come up with a Hack to make every book compatable with every machine. then they would sell the Hell out of those E Books. I mean which one do you buy. Sony is different, Google is coming out with a format. Kindle has a format. then there is Adobe PDF and a myriad of others that I can't call out all at once. They need to get together like they did with the CD at the High Sierra Summit and deside on a common format. Its books for God's Sake. Just let the publisher sell all there wares.
