Looks like MSI's trying some new things with its next generation of netbooks -- instead of the expected Atom N280 or the NVIDIA Ion platform, the new Wind U110 ECO pairs a 1.6GHz Atom Z530 and Intel's traditionally MID-oriented Menlow chipset with an ATI Mobility Radeon HD3200 to achieve nine hours of battery life. Of course, it remains to be seen what that number translates to in the real world and we've got questions about performance, but it's an interesting mashup of laptop, netbook, and MID parts -- let's hope pricing stays firmly in netbook territory.

I would say yes. the hd3200 is pretty good for not being a discrete card

I'd take it for 400$

But yeah, being made by MSI is a big...NO! in my book.

To many bad experiences with MSI.

MSI have proven themselves with the highly regarded Wind....

Should play 1080p just fine.

(1.6ghz Single core with Hyper Threading)
It may need to overclock the CPU a bit but gotta see benchies.

They have a long line of crap though. And the wind's have just been famous for being easy to put Hackintosh on.

A 2.0ghz P4 without hyper threading can do 1080p playback w/ an HD2400pro PCI card. So who knows. But with SetFSB you can get a atom up to 2.0 no prob.

200$ is the cheapest, the really nice decked out models are around 350$

On the Atom 230, most people can get 1.8-2.1GHz from the stock 1.6GHz.

man, why would you oc an atom anyway? and why would you want to oc a lappy anyway?

atoms are made for ultra-portability for a longer run while getting at least some features of an htpc. besides, atoms are meant to be energy efficient, not performance killers. i'd rather get a c2d if it's just the purpose.

I have seen people getting closer to 2.0ghz on the new N5xx Atoms. (the stock 1.66 w/ 667 FSB chips)

We here at OCN will OC anything we can get our hands on
Wasnt there an article a few weeks (months maybe) where an MSI Wind was OC'd to like 3GHz. Albeit on LN2 but still.....

yeah but that's just for the sake of benchies.

you still can't carry that on the go, or even run that 24/7

there's this feature of those winds that with a push of a button allows you to go 1.6 to 1.9. i'm hope that feature will still be in that model.

Wow, I might get one if I can run OSX on it. I'm all about battery life when it comes to portable electronics.

Exactly; if I were to do anything regarding OCing, I'd be UCing it (underclocking, of course).
