To an icon in the consumer electronics retail space, we wave goodbye. And for the hordes of employees already / soon to be looking for new uniforms elsewhere, we empathize. Circuit City has just announced that on March 8th, all of its stores will lock up for the last time. Granted, some locations have already shut their doors in permanent fashion due to stock depletion, but regardless of leftover wares, March 8th is the end of the line for the laggards. We'd say you might want to stop by your local outlet to catch any last-last-minute sales, but even at a penny, you're not going to want that open-box 4MB SD card.

Good riddance. Their employees have always treated me like crap no matter which one I go to.
There was a pretty cool guy in there Wednesday night, one of the last ones. Was doubling as cashier/salesman and was really helpful when I was looking at stuff. I hope he gets a good job elsewhere, as those kinds of employees are few and far between these days.

I'm going in tomorrow morning, since by Saturday/Sunday it will surely be picked over even worse than it is now.
I went to mine on Monday, and there was absolutely nothing left. Every single isle was taped off, and there was ONE section that had printer ink, some print labels, and a stack of Xbox 360 Guitar Hero II Wired Controllers.

That was it.
I think ima go check out my local CC quick this weekend and see what's left.

Doubt there's much.

Even their liquidation prices were through the roof. Good riddance.
So they close Sunday. I guess there's some big time partying going down
I went last weekend...store was picked clean of everything worthwhile. I almost bought a Guitar Hero wired guitar for $10, but honestly that's still too much for something I don't really need.

Unless you were looking for a big TV, anyway...there were still some large 50"+ models marked down to 50% off, or something like that. If I needed a big TV right now, I might have bought one. I was hoping to find a smaller TV, 19" or so, but they were long gone.
all the circuit city stores near me were already sacked. I couldnt get anything usefull from them =(

If anyone comes across discounted Warhammer Online Game cards hook me up =)
The one here closed several years ago, and I say good riddance.

What was sad was when the CompUSA store closed here. Now I have no choice but to go to Worst Buy.

I know that some are happy about this but it really will hurt us all in the end. Now BB can charge whatever they like in many areas. If you can't wait to order something online you will be forced to pay whatever they ask. Personally I always had good luck at CC and terrible experiences at BB.
I worked at the local CC for almost 2 years. Quit and went to Best Buy when my manager tried to deny me my paid time off after my wife had our baby. I wanted to throttle that fat little asshat, but I'm cool now. I was the Firedog Supervisor, now I work Geek Squad and just being a regular ol' agent gets me nearly an extra dollar an hour. No real responsibility, better hours, better treatment from management, WE ACTUALLY HAVE TOOLS, and more money. Yes please. CC blew, big time. Any of you who ever worked Firedog knows just how badly their corporate structure worked. Alot of their employees did suck, but the good ones were usually screwed over by lack of training or lack of inventory, or asshat managers that can't get anything straight.
If you guys know the exact last date for your local CC's (some might close before Match 8th), I recommend you go on the last day. The liquidation company at the store I was working at basically was needing to get rid of everything in the store on the last day, we just had the little stuff left, printer ink, cables, video game accessories, etc. They ended up marking down all PC software to $2 each, no matter what it is. Sure enough, there were two copies of Vista Ultimate on the self, which I got for a total of $4.xx after tax, not to mention all of the PC games I bought for $2 each. I'm not saying all stores will do this, but you never know what will happen on the last day of a store.

best buy isnt going to up their prices. Just because circuit city went out of business does not mean there is no more competition. I was reading the 'circuit city playbook' that came from corporate from best buy and they said they would not be adjusting prices (in a bad way anyway). It said in there that wal mart was actually more of a competitor than circuit city along with fry's and other major retailers so there is still bigger and more competition than circuit city. As long as i have worked at best buy (after working with Sabis who posted above for a year and a half) i have never seen circuit city as a threat to best buy. I knew a couple months into my employment at CC that they would not last long if they kept things up the way they did and sure enough....

Its funny because I was talking to a best buy employee a while ago and they said that best buy did a study on the atmosphere of BB vs CC and customers preferred the one in BB because they felt that the red layout was too 'aggressive' and the blue was more laidback and calm.
Overall, BB dominates to work for over CC. Plus i know 7 people from my old CC store that work at the BB i work at now. Ive seen maybe one employee come from BB to CC and he quit cuz everyday he complained about how much it sucked lol

QFT! I was in my local store a few months back and was going to purchase my G15 from them instead of BB at a cool 84.99. Went back as soon as everything was on sale with a nice 20% off and low and behold, it was marked up to 112.99, yes I said 112.99 for a G15
, WITH 20% off making it even more expensive than before.

Every item in their store was like this. As you so well put El, Good Riddance.

This is the liquidator's fault, not Circuit City. When a store starts to liquidate, it is no longer owned and controlled by Circuit City.

No one here seems to understand that.

So when you guys get all hot headed about the pricing, take it out on the liquidators, not Circuit City.

The only thing left worth purchasing at a store near me was a set of G51 speakers for $30. Though it was a display model. I rather not risk the abuse.

They're pretty "meh" to begin with anyways.

Does anyone know if their PC games section are having any deals? You would think they would just mark them low to get them off the shelves.
