EVGA GTX 285 Temperatures?

9011 Views 17 Replies 11 Participants Last post by  manolith
Im getting 50 at idle, and 85 under Crysis with all settings very high 1600x1200.

The fan is howling at those temps! That sux! Is this normal?

If so, are there any aftermarket coolers for the 285?

That's high. At 100% fan speed you should be idling between 30-40c. Under load, mine never exceed 65C. Is there decent airflow to the card? You not overvolting it are you?
Nope, just installed it yesterday... I mean its fast, but wow thats really hot. How hot is too hot for one of these? Dont want to fry it- but I guess EVGA would warranty it (?).
Actually just saw a couple links where they report the same... you must be one of the lucky ones with a cool card?

I have 2 lucky cards then?? I don't think so. Your temps are in the safe range, just ~10C hotter then they should be. Anything hotter then 100C and damage is going to happen.

Got a pic of the set-up?

Your temp are where it should be, it´s a 285 GTX and it´s a highend card and with it you get high temp and sometimes a loud fan.

Arctic cooler have one cooler, it´s for the 260, 280 and 285.
I´ve a similary cooler for my 9800GTX, lower temp and lower noice, on the downside, it´s thicker the reference cooler.

Tweak the fan speed up and it should be at 33c idle and around 52c or more on load . Well thats my temps.
Download Riva tuner or EVGA precision and raise your fan speed. If that doesn't fix your temps get ready to RMA.
Just download the latest version of riva tuner and keep the fans around 60% when not gaming and 80-90% when gaming. My temps around 40 degrees idle and 55-65 degrees on load when gaming. Also remember that ambient temps play a big role.Whats your room temperature?
the 285 gtx is probab ly one of the coolest runninmg cards there is out there right now.As good as my old 8800 GTS 512
I get around 40c idle with the downclocking and 60% fan and get around 65-72c full load depending on the game. Some games only get it to the 50's

But I run 100% fan speed load as I care much more about preserving my hardware than a little noise from my case, and with surround sound I really dont even notice...

I will put my .02 in although mine is an XFX not an EVGA. I get around 40c idle and 80c under full load. According to XFX this is resonable and normal.

I run [email protected] 24/7 with it and submitted a support ticket to XFX to verify the temps and thier warranty in case it dies from prolonged use at high temperature. They said the card should have no problems handling the temps for years. I am sure EVGA support is even better so you might contact them about the issue.

My fan cycles range from 40%-60% under Auto settings. If I set it for 80% the temp will climb no higher than 63c. (but it howls above 65%) and as I am folding not playing a game I do notice the noise.

I have very good air flow in this computer. (see it here: http://www.overclock.net/case-mod-wo...oden-case.html)
also dont forget when you run sli your temps are bound to be between 38 to 50 depending on your cooling/case/air/ambient etc
my cards hit 90*c on the furmark stress tests. 78*c on demanding games. i dont see how it would stay at 65*c under full load on air.
I get 65c under full load but I bump the fan to 85% and yes it does howl.

Well even with 3 cards in what looks like a solid block, the middle card never exceeds 72C with fan at 100%. So you need to increase fan speed or case airflow.

Fans of both cards are at 100% and airflow is not an issue. Mobo temp is 32*c and cpu is watercooled so the heat of the cpu is not hitting the cards.
This cards just run hot. I am glad that yours run cooler tho.
