We've been hinting at it, now it's here!

Any EVGA folding team member with over 2,500 miletone points (see below) will qualify for this offer. Simply place a b-stock order for any -RX product and receive a %10 off coupon at checkout. Visit http://www.evga.com/folding/promo.asp for full terms

#2 -- EVGA folding milestone promotion

Earn up to $100 worth of EVGA bucks per year by hitting your folding milestones. Each year we will reset your milestone points and when you hit the 100,000, 500,000, and 1,000,000 point milestones you are eligible for EVGA bucks. At 100,000 earn $10, at 500,000 earn $30, and at 1,000,000 earn $60 for a total of $100 per year!!! Make sure you review the terms on http://www.evga.com/folding/promo.asp to ensure your eligibility for this promotion.

We also added a "My Folding" page to the folding site to help you guys monitor your milestone points. We will be adding more features to this page over time to give you guys better stats. Thank Mr. Shane and his uber ninja hacker programming skills for this one.

This is entertaining watching everyone go at it. But research wins in the end, so by all means.. fold on!

Meh...it'll take more money than that to turn me into a corporate shill.

I realize its for a cause but when you win a contest by proving that you have the most money is that really winning?

What contest? Everyone qualifies and it doesn't take that much to break 1M points in a year.

I understand your point. But the bottom line is that it does cost to fold. CPUs, Gpus, kilowatts, oh my. All the big ppd guys have all sunk a lot of money into folding. Because they obviously have more money than some to spend on folding does that make the single gpu guys points less worthy? Or for that matter does it make the big guns points less worthy? I say both are the same. The difference is the money invested. And the degree of addiction.

Neither you or I have the 1 million badge lol.

I just think its uncool for evga to basically buy their points to first place. I don't know maybe I am wrong.

I'd laugh if Stanford pimp slaps them for this.

I'm also sure they'd explode if the following conditions are met:

1. Card is won by an OCNer
2. Card is used against EVGA in [email protected] or,
3. Card is never fold on even once.

I agree 100%, lemans. EVGA is only doing this to increase their bottom line. While it does promote the cause in the short-term, it has the potential, in the long-run, to kill much of the good-spirited competition and therefore total production of the entire program when/if [email protected] turns into a corporate pissing contest.

If they were just trying to promote the cause and not their corporate agenda this stipulation would not have been put in their rules:

Quoted from EVGA rules:

Quote:
Only points earned for the EVGA folding team (team xxxxxx)will qualify for this promotion
As opposed to PNY's contest that does not stipulate that you fold for a specific team

I started a thread earlier about the EVGA folding deal that this thread is about. Wonder why mine got deleted?????

Probably because you tried passing it off as a news article in the hardware news section when it is obvious that you are trying to recruit for team EVGA. You stopped folding for OCN in the middle of February (right when the EVGA vs OCN competition began) and started folding for EVGA, so let's not pretend that you are disinterested, okay?

Sorry to be so blunt but you asked.

Yet. A GTX260 can hit 1M running 1/2 a year. GPU power is only gonna increase over time. 1M isn't that hard anymore.

Then why don't you yell at people who do freebies for OCN folders only?

Try to see it objectively...

I don't fold and never will, but I'm sure it's a incentive for some people to start it is for a good cause correct.
If Evga wants to pay for people to fold good for them.

No please do be blunt. I appreciate honesty. I can also see that being the reason. As far as recruiting that's not accurate. I did switch teams but not because of EVGA vs OCN. I had other reasons but was still gonna fold once in a while so I decided to use someones team number. Not to mention EVGA rmad a couple cards for me they probably shouldnt have and didnt have to. They earned a couple cool points in my book.

Folding and the competition is interesting for me today. But maybe not tomorrow.

Because OCNers don't do it for their own monetary gain. I am trying to look at it objectively. I understand that it will bring in new folders that otherwise wouldn't be folding. I just see it as EVGA using their vast amounts of money to bribe people to fold for their team so that "team EVGA" can jump to the top of the charts and boost their name recognition and profits. That is the only reason, if it didn't make EVGA money then they wouldn't be doing it.

I may be wrong about this but I think it will suck when all the top teams are "team Intel", and "team Microsoft" and people stop folding because it is a positive thing to do and only fold to satisfy their need for money and material things. I think in the long-run it could be detrimental to the cause.

anyway you look at it, that is just good marketing.

Personally, I don't fold for any teams, cause to me the the whole notion of 'belonging' to some made up entity is kinda ridiculous, same as identifying with your country, sports team etc.

Also, I only fold at night, where there is 'leftover' energy. To help the environment.
