Well it has turned out that is a load of BS. People wanting to upgrade to the G80/8800series have been denied this as EVGA claim it is an upgrade over generations, and not current cards. ***?

WEll, I understand that it's a kinda, "Oh, but you didn't know?" situation, but I think there doing it because they know that you could buy a $200 GTO, sit on it for a month, and then step up to a G80 for a bit cheaper.

Although it is crap that they never mention that in the advertisements.

No, this makes no sense...NO ONE is asking EVGA to take one in the rear...it's a simple, take my used card in for a discount on a newer one. Why aren't they doing this with the G80's?? They could at least name a price.

ouch, tons of people have bough GX2's just to step up, presumed they read the terms and conditions before hand, although it wouldn't suprise me if they were FORCED to accept the offer

thats actually a big con if true, as why else would you buy a GX2? If you cant get a next-gen card, why provide the step-up with a top-of-the-range card?

Thats just not cool. I knew the step-up program was too good to be true. What good is it stepping up to the same generation?

IMO eVGA is awesome. And all those defective cards were not eVGA exclusive. They just sell a lot more then everyone else. At that, I had a defective 7900, and I had a new one, with the Infineon 1.1ns memory, in 2 days after I called. Amazing service, best warrenty.

I dont see the point up stepup anyway, i looked at it. For a stepup to a 7950gx2 its $599. I could sell my current card then buy retail and get a better deal

Here's the thing. eVGA probably lost a ton of revenue when the G71's first came out. People Stepped up their 7800GTX's to 7900GT's. Better performance for free. This is now coming about with the GX2's and the 8800's. Where the GX2's were top of the line, new technology is blowing out the competition and is also cheaper. If consumers were allowed to Step-up to the G80's there would be even more loss in revenue.

Yes it sucks for those who just bought cards that want the G80, but there's an easy way around it. Find someone who wants to go SLi and sell it instead of going through the Step-up.

I think it's a smart business move for eVGA
