Yep, I saw it. Thank you for making sure. This thread is only for the P300 though. It's a great large capacity hard drive for use as storage at an extremely good price - especially for people who'd much rather spend as little as possible while still getting a very good large capacity hard drive for storage use. It would even be quite good as an OS drive. Even so, if someone can afford to spend $120 with ease (if spending $120 is really no different to them than spending $70), then sure, the 5TB X300 would be a much smarter purchase, especially if the goal is to obtain a great large capacity OS drive. The X300 drives would be quite overkill as storage drives, but still, at $120 for a 5TB drive, the X300 is indeed quite a good deal.

Personally, I am on a very limited income and spending $120 is just too difficult for me to handle. Even spending $70 is difficult, but it's $50 less and that's MUCH easier for me and I desperately need more storage space and it seems my rescue ship has arrived with this deal (just in the nick of time, too). I know I'm not the only one who will love this deal for just about the same reasons, so I posted this to increase the awareness of it. Someone else already posted the deal for the 5TB X300, but they do need to update the promo code.

From all the research that I have personally done, I have come to the conclusion that the Toshiba P300 drives are excellent even if you wanted to use this as your OS drive. They are about on par with WD Black drives, and actually better in some respects - but not better in others of course. They're just about the same.

Don't go by customer reviews. People are far more likely to write a review to share a negative experience than they are to share a positive one.

I ordered one of these drives and my estimated delivery date is next Monday (I chose EggSaver because I can't justify spending $5 just to get it sooner). If I'm feeling up to installing it immediately, then I'll be able to share my first impressions next week.

Mine's out for delivery right now. I don't feel particularly up to installing it today, but I definitely have enough time, so I'll probably do it anyway.

I installed my new Toshiba 3TB P300, and so far I am loving it! Installation was super easy, and so far I copied 218 GB in 26 minutes from my 840 EVO using a SATA 2 connection on the Intel P67 SATA controller. During the entire 26 minutes, I couldn't hear anything at all. I remember having a 250 GB Seagate Barracuda 7200.10, and I remember being able to hear it every single time I used it. The location of my computer is still in the same spot, and I'm still using the same case and my room is dead silent except for the soft quiet hum of my case fans, yet I can't hear it at all.

The average speed I got from this data copy was 143 MB/sec. However, during the first like 25% of the copying, I saw it exceed 220, and I saw it sustain 170 and 180 and 160 (roughly). During the last 50% or so, it sustained 142 and never changed.

What I'm trying to say is, I'm extremely happy with this hard drive!

I installed my new Toshiba 3TB P300, and so far I am loving it! Installation was super easy, and I copied 382 GB in about 35-40 minutes from my 840 EVO using a SATA 2 connection on the Intel P67 SATA controller (I have to use SATA 2 until I finish the process of removing my old storage drives). During the entire copying process, I couldn't hear anything at all.

The average speed I got from this data copy was 163 - 186 MB/sec (depending on if it took 40 minutes or just 35). At times, I saw speeds that were a few hundred MB/sec. During the last 50-25% of the process though, it sustained perfectly at 142 MB/sec for some reason. I'm happy with that too though.

What I'm trying to say is, I'm extremely happy with this hard drive!

Edit: I am not sure why I created another post here to say the same thing. Hmm.

So funny. They extended this deal yet again!

I'm aware the X300 is still on sale as well, but hey, the P300 is $70 for a high-performance 3TB hard drive!

dang it! And I was about to buy one lol. Oh well, I am sure we will see this price in the next 2 or 3 months. It is known that the first 2 or 3 months there are some killer deals similar to BF or CM.

Oh nice. That's good to know. I wouldn't even get it at $81.99. It was $79.99 before. It seems to be $81.99 or more everywhere right now.

I admit I still think that's a good deal, but if you can wait, then wait.

Thank you. That's only $38 more than the 3 TB P300 right now! I don't know anything about the quality or speed or reliability of the X300 Series, but I have to assume it's much better since its intended use would require a superior hard drive.

EDIT: Oh come on! The sale ended! LOL Dammit. Argh. hehehe Oh well. It'll probably get the same sale again in a few days! lol

I'm still happy with the 3 TB P300 though. As a storage drive, it's quite a bit more than "good enough" for me. Not only that, but it's still a bit hard for me to believe that I actually have a 3 TB hard drive now. lol I love it! I had just enough money for it too and I desperately needed the extra space, so it was perfect timing.
