I have had this hdd for a long time and suddenly a file goes crazy and it makes like 50 copies of it and the dates said it was modified on like 4/14/1994. It wouldn't let me delete the folder so I tried to delete everything. I tired to re-format it as I can just put everything back on but every program I try it gives me an error one is an i/o error. It is detected in Disk Management as unallocated and with no drive letter. I can't look into it as there is no drive letter so I am so lost on how to fix this I don't care about losing data since its already all gone and back to 300gb stock. I can't get past that, is this a dead or something?

This is what I have/done/tried
It is a Western Digital External usb 300gb hdd, it's really old too.
It was formatted to fat before so my Xbox 360 could read it.
I have tried Swissknife, Easeus, and something called like tokia.
I tried to format it to NTFS, and FAT, I even just tried to assign a letter to it but it still fails.
In Device Manager it shows up as working properly.
