hey guys

so i have a pretty high spec PC (well i like to think so). I have a P4 3.8Ghz, along with a Nvidia Geforce 7800GTX, i have 1GB munshkin DDR2 mem - oh and the MB is a asus p5nd2 deluxe. Now i have F.E.A.R running, but with the settings below it only just about runs smoothly:

single player physics: max
particle bouncing :max
shell, casings: on
world detail: max
corpse detail : max

effects detail: med
model decals: med
water res: med
reflections and displays:med
volumetric lights: med
volumetrixc light density: med
FSAA:4x
light detail: med
enalbe shadows: on
shadow detail: med
soft shadows: iff
texture filtering: AF 16x
texture res: med
videos: max
pixel doubling: off
dx8 shaders: off
screen res: 1024x768x32
shaders: med

now............with my system should i be able to run the game at near maximum settings? at the moment im running it mostly on medium by the looks of my current settings. Can anyone offer any advice?

PS i have tried turning off vsync for a higher frame rate but i get lots of image tearing which bugs me.

any help would be great

Jonathan

I run FEAR on the following settings (copied your format to make it easy to compare
) on the rig in my sig.

single player physics: max
particle bouncing :max
shell, casings: on
world detail: max
corpse detail : max

effects detail: max
model decals: max
water res: max
reflections and displays: max
volumetric lights: max
volumetrixc light density: max
FSAA:4x
light detail: max
enalbe shadows: on
shadow detail: max
soft shadows: on
texture filtering: AF 16x
texture res: max
videos: max
pixel doubling: off
dx8 shaders: off
screen res: 1280x1024x32
shaders: max

As you can see I ran it at MUCH higher settings than you on a much slower system, also back then my CPU was only clocked at 3.435GHz (rather than 3.75 that it is now) and I got steady 20FPS, by dropping the AA to 2x and turning only the graphical settings to medium I ran it at a steady 50-70FPS with vSync on (limited at 75) so there is definitely something wrong with your computer (no offense).

EDIT/// Metalkobra, if my 3.0 Intel at 3.4 with 1GB of RAM ran FEAR with the CPU settings at max, then your 3GHz AMD should do it fine with 1GB of RAM
I would raise that to max if I were you.

EDIT//// Wait, you have a 3.8 so just OC it to 4GHz since it is so close lol, also make sure your RAM is running at DDR2 800 in your BIOS and try to overclock that 7800GTX, though it shouldn't be needed, are you running the latest Nvidia drivers?

I know that most sites reviewing the card do it at AA 4x, AF 8x-try that and everything else a little higher. Unless you do a crapload of overclocking, the max you'll get at everything maxed out, aa and af settings above is about 20fps.

and uhh, OC the proc a little more?

OMG.

Fear does NOT need 2 gigs. Niehter does BF2, I'm so tired of hearing that.

I run FEAR at its highest possiible setting with one gig and a 7800GT.

Just make sure soft shadows is turned off, I didn't see that in your list.
