recently found this site with a large collection of sounds from specific failing hard drives. Along with sounds it has a ton of usefully information on the hard drives, their weaknesses, and even how to repair them.

Ya RMA was already enroute when I posted that. A fairly new 500gb 7200.11.
My fist ever seagate casualty.

Maxtor desktop drive with stuck spindle playing futuristic cell phone melody.

LOL, for some reason I found that one hilarious, but definitely a cool link. Thanks

Wow that's quite a while even for most healthy drives.

i just marked about 120 HDs at work for shredding that were 10-15 years old. Ive even pulled some that were manufactured in the late 80s that still worked. Honestly honw long an HD lasts is luck of the draw even if it is well cooled.
