Failing Hard Drive Sounds and Information

recently found this site with a large collection of sounds from specific failing hard drives. Along with sounds it has a ton of usefully information on the hard drives, their weaknesses, and even how to repair them.

I got a seagate 80gb out of an emachine (that exploded, like they usually do) that has made the click of death (head drop) everytime its been used, but is still a live and failure free after 10 years

Wow that's quite a while even for most healthy drives.

i just marked about 120 HDs at work for shredding that were 10-15 years old. Ive even pulled some that were manufactured in the late 80s that still worked. Honestly honw long an HD lasts is luck of the draw even if it is well cooled.
