Faking a monitor

694 Views 11 Replies 9 Participants Last post by  Special_K
I know of the whole faking a monitor thing using resistors in a plug. The Radioshacks I have been to though don't have any 75 ohm resistors and I don't want to combine a lot of resistors to make the 75 ohm requirement. Would using 100 ohm resistors be alright to use and work for what I need? Also what wattage do I need 1/4 or 1/2?

I'll send you 10 68 ohm resistors for like $1.
I can buy them myself no problem because I saw the 68's, but will they give enough resistance to fake a monitor?
What is this about? Explain what you are trying to do?
I'm trying to have a pc that can boot without a monitor hooked up only to be used through remote desktop. It won't boot without a monitor though.
WHy not keep it on and then disconnect the monitor?
If they're only a dollar why not just buy some and if they don't work then whatever they costed practically nothing :/
68ohm resistors work fine. I use them on my folding machine.

Is this for your main rig? You don't need the dummy plugs on XP, only Vista.
Thanks for all the help. The thing was this, I wanted to be able to remote desktop to this machine without it having a monitor on/plugged in. I can't have it boot up without a monitor plugged into it. Thanks for the info on the 68ohm resistors. If i bought them being a dollar, I would have spent more in gas driving their and back twice to buy the replacements. Rep's around.
