Fallout 3 is now asking for the game disk?

I did some re-aranging of my hard drives and partitions and thus had to re-install my gaming partition of Vista...no big deal.

I re-installed Fallout 3 and patched just as before, but now it wants the game disk in the drive to start the game. It never did before. Was it not installed correctly before? I was not using any mods before of any kind and certainly no cracks.

It's not a huge deal. I have three DVD roms on my rig any way for this exact purpose. One of them has had my BF2142 disk in it for about two years.

It still annoying...was there some thing I did different in the install this time? I have Steam games as well...did it some how go through Steam to check for the game disk? I normally would have bought the game off Steam, but I had gotten a Walmart $50 gift card a long time ago and since I never go there for any other shopping I decided to buy Fallout 3 with it. This stupid DVD in the drive thing is why I like Steam so much and I think I'll spend my giftcards on cheap socks or some thing next time.

Well that is weird lol, im pretty sure your meant to use the CD on pretty much all games, except for steam games.
Were you using the launcher, or fallout3.exe? As far as I'm aware the fallout3.exe doesnt need the disc if you're all registered up on GFWL.

Maybe you changed the link to the executable before and forgot to do it this time? Just guessing here, if not that does sound odd.
I have a copy of Fallout 3 that I beat but never registered. I always needed the disk in the drive to play.
I've always had to have my fallout CD in for it to play using the launcher.
Get a crack for it if it bothers you so much???

Lucky you, I've had to use the CD every time!
If you go to your program files folder and go into the fallout3 installation folder you should see 2 fallout3 icons, 1 asks for the dvd and the other doesn't. For the one that doesn't just right click and send to desktop, that will make a shortcut on your desktop that doesn't require the DVD.

For example mine is "C:\\Program Files\\Bethesda Softworks\\Fallout 3\\Fallout3.exe"
and FalloutLauncher.exe is the one that asks for DVD.
The newest patches, in my experience, cause even Fallout3.exe to require the game disc.
I played as recenlt as 3 days ago without the disk, will it be against any rules for me to give out my game .exe file for those that need it or would like it?

Doh! Sure enough...I made the wrong short cut, or well it was still the right one. It just required the game disk.

The Fallout3.exe doesn't require the CD, but the Fallout3-Launcher does.

Yeah, I really don't understand their logic behind that!
but all is well if it works!

How awesome you guys think it would be if fallout3 was multi-player?
I know I would love it, the AI kinda gets a bit repetitive and it would be nice to have something a bit more real, lol

Anyways I got like 800 saves now and been playing like 140+ hours in 3 weeks, lol.

What kinda character you guys play? Im always evil, nomatter how hard I try I Always end up evil.
So far I've only played good...or well...my karma ends up that way. Any weapon, box of ammo, or stim pack I see laying arround I will grab no matter if its red or not. I lock pick and hack every thign if for nothing more than the expierence points. I guess I don't go on random killing sprees. I just kill the annoying ones. Like the Atom peacher in Megaton...he dies as soon as I get a stealth boy. I've tried just hiding but people come running out their houses to fight me and I don't want to kill them. Its nice having some NPCs walking around the game word.

Its just hard not to be good...I could chose not to help out Bigtown...but then I'd miss out killing the herd of super mutants and the quest expierence. I've never even looked into blowing up Megaton...if I did I'd loose the shop there and the chance to own a house. Plus by being good I get Talon Mercs showing up to kill me for the contract on my head and they ussually got good armor and weapons for me to loot. I suppose if you are evil you still have people coming after you though.

One of these times I am just going to have to play hard ball and only do the evil things. It is justhard not to because I don't want to miss any thing.

As far as multiplayer...I'd like to see an expansion that adds arenas where you could fight in online matches and get rewards for your single player game. It would take some pretty drastic chages to make it a MMO though.

yeah I havent killed anyone in megaton, havent blown it up yet either, though I plan on it!
Carefull maybe spoilers below for you

After you do you get a penthouse in pentenny tower so no biggie on the shack you get in megaton (got that last round I played)
And I did help bigtown, and am helping the slaves although I did give leeroy their location and kill him at the last minute,..
But the game still says Im an evil SOB, lol and 3 dog is calling me names too! even after I got his stupid radio tower working
