Currently, im thinking of replacing my stock NB heatsink with a fan cooled one. The stock is about 3x3x3cm with large fins. The fan cooled heatsink i have is the standard old graphics card cooler - very flat, with hardly any fins and a 40mm fan on top. Since I have a desktop case (for the amd) theres hardly, or no airflow in my case, so the NB heatsink get pretty hot. Will the tiny fan cooled heatsink provide enough cooling?

Thx

An active fan is better than what you have on your mobo. I've seen some pictures and your NB heatsink is really tiny. One question thow, do you have a place to connect the fan on the mobo or are you gonna connect it through a molex? If through a molex pay attention to connect properly the wires, not to link a 5V fan on a 12V rail because it can get toasted.

Can you rig the fan on to the default heatsink

There is supposed to be a fan connector on the MB for a NB fan they excluded it So im planing to make a splitter for the CPU HS connector.

Zalman do a passive northbridge cooler you might want to look at - it has very long fins.
