Of course it will.

The only thing that ever stops a video card fitting in a case is length, and a 5970, which is around 2.5" longer than a 5850 fits in fine.

I want to see some benches of 5850 CrossFire when you get it!

Radeon HD5000 series Performance Test

Personal Comment.

When I bought my 4870 X 2 I truly felt like I was King of the Castle. One of the Few, the Bad Axxed. Now after reading the ratings on these new 5xxx series cards from ATI,
I feel like old Corn Flakes that have been sitting in the bowl too long. These cards not only out shine my old timer 4870 x 2 but also does it with a lot less Juice. Just at idle my card is pulling 100 watts of coal fired electricity, but the new series is not only faster but runs DX11 and does it with 1/3 rd of the Electricity.
Don't get me wrong. I still love my $400.00 dollar video card that I bought less than a year ago but this Moore's Law stuff has got to go.

A little look down Memory lane at my TOL Sapphire 4870x2
