My first "Gaming mouse" Was some old HP mouse that had the same internals as the WMO.... I have actually searched for it to try and find one for nostalgia sake but can't find it. It was grey with dark blue buttons. Sort of like a WMO shape if you made the front more rounded. Either way, used to dominate with that mouse in UT2k4 and BF2

I do not think there was anything else manufactured with MLT04 apart from 4 known mice.

That's why it's such a mystery to me. I am almost certain that it had the same internals as the WMO because I took it apart back in the day and it looked the same.

It was ALL manufactured in China hence anything goes there.

Wouldn't be surprised at all that THEY had installed the MLT04 sensor into a variety of HP, Dell, IBM or even Acer input devices over the years, when the MLT04 was first aired by MS.

Remember the MLT04 was a plain office mouse sensor, before they realized what it actually was and what it delivered to the gaming community .

It was popular among some people, but it was insignificant to microsoft and they did not marketed it to gaming community.

And I can see no reason for other vendors to use MLT04 over some other cheap alternatives, especially when 400cpi became uncomfortable for work in high resolutions.

Next time I am at my parents house I will go through some boxes and see if I can find it. I just remember taking a WMO apart at some point and then took that one apart because I was curious and it looked like they had the same or very similar internals. I didn't know anything about PCBs back then though so I may not have known what I was looking at. I remember buying a Logitech G5 gaming mouse at some point and ended up switching back to the HP mouse because I did way better with it. Could have just been because it was light and was a good shape.

I used each of the following mice for several years:

Intellimouse Optical

MX Revolution (the very first one ever released)

DeathAdder 3.5g

G9x

Nowadays I would not be able to use either of the Logitech mice due to their weight. I still have a brand new unopened G9x that I've thought about selling, but can't seem to bring myself to doing it. It was a replacement mailed from Logitech but I was impatient and had bought a new one in-store while waiting for it to come in, so it's just been sitting in the back of a closet for years.

The G9x value is only going to go higher and higher as supply dwindles down. I'd probably never sell a new and sealed G9x. I still have in my possession a sealed in box Logitech Wingman gaming mouse.

You forgot that during all of that, the supply of suckers willing to pay exorbitant prices will also dwindle down to nothing.

You will always get some who believe the hype posted on sites such as here.

Nothing wrong with that, just like old IBMs, Acers, Dells and Apple keyboards that have risen in price, simply due to postings by nerds promoting them.
