Few upgrade questions...

210 Views 6 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Lyshk0
1. If I have an average-quality E8400, could I get it to 4ghz with 1066mhz ram with my board?

2. I'm thinking of getting this SSD, will it significantly benefit me?

3. If I couldn't get my E8400 to 4ghz, could I get a Q9650 to that speed?

Thanks, I know these are kinda hard-to-answer questions, but any feedback will be appreciated.

You'll get your E8400 to that speed.
Yes a Q9650 can get to that speed, as well as a Q9550
Thats a nice SSD you picked, lil pricey though. Not worth it imo

Just get a better cooler. I'm sure the Zalman can do it, but there are better coolers out there.

Ok, I'll go with a Q9550 then. The reason I picked that particular SSD is because of the high read/write speeds. Most of the others are rated at 150/90.

Well, I share the same sentiment somewhat, but my current HDD's are pretty slow for some reason, I crave epic fast load times for my frequently used programs

Your better off getting either
2 640gb hard drives
2 500gb hard drives

And Raid them. MUCH cheaper, MUCH more storage. That way, when SSD comes down in price, you won't be kicking yourself in the but

Isn't Nvidia's raid pretty bad?

And, would I get even better speeds if I striped 3 drives?

qft. this is what i did, and its pretty speedy. i am planning on a getting a pair of either 64gig or 128gig ssd's once the prices lower for another raid0 array to use as a system drive.
