11 - THE GRAND PRIZE:
Everything sent out 7/7.
Final: I've decided to switch up and go with a different pic than what I thought was my final 3. The winner is Syrillian. [sent]
I think this is a good choice because so much of American history is in it. It can represent our expansion to the west coast, the Transcontinental Railroad, the gold rush and the wild west that made San Francisco. The 1906 earthquake, the Golden Gate bridge and the 60s counterculture define a lot of the last century. The first Earth Day proclamation was issued by San Francisco Mayor Joseph Alioto on March 21, 1970 and the "Gay Rights" movement also calls San Fran home, so our present day society is as connected to San Francisco as San Francisco is connected to our past as a whole.
Reasons for enjoying Barbeque's, scenic landscapes, hard workers, history... and yes, even Stephen Colbert are great aspects of America, but this pic kind of represents all of that in each the past, the present, and future.
[EDIT] I've narrowed it down to 3, but I'm still not sure.
The final 3.
