Hai guys, i'm RMAing my ****ty PNY 7900GS because its got a lot of problems.

Well i got the card for 199.99$, but because i have to pay for shipping i'm down to 189$.

So. Here's the challenge.

Find me the best deal for a sub-189$ card. I want specifics (I.E. links). Not just "ATI x1900", because i can look at the price guide too.

I'm not the largest fan of ATI, but man, those x1950's look delish.

The x1950 will wipe the floor with a 7900GS. I would recommend the sapphire one on the farthest to your left. The other one might have better cooling but if you need it, just throw an all copper VF900 and call it a day.

currently the x1950PRO might be a better Idea I got the EVGA 7900GS becuase it was 170 then the 20 rebate so 40 bucks cheaper.

If you look here they test them OC'd. The 7900GS hangs pretty well. In about helf the tests the OC'd version beat the x1950pro by a bit but then when the x1950 pro won..it was by a fair margin.

Now thing Is I dont know how much the X1950pro overclocks but i do know that their card was 600/725.

My EVGA 7900GS OC's to 625/835.

It was a pretty decent OC on the core but that memory overclock was very low. Most cards will hit 600/800 fairly easy. Probably can hit 615/820 fine too.

So its a bit of the luck of the draw.

When it comes down to it I do like my 7900GS but I might tell you to go with the x1950PRO if your not to sure bout your luck or just dont care

Anyone know any good deals on Gainward GPU's? I hear they're the best overclockers out there for the same price as you would find any.

I guess, then, someone just has to put the best 7900GS deal they can find in front of me so i can decide whether to choose the best 7900GS or the best x1950.

Like i said, i AM a nvidia fan. Or, at least, moreso than i am an ATI fan. So if the tests really do sway back in forth between the two, i am obliged to go with the 7900GS :S. Especially with that 40$ split, i really like having money in my wallet

So like i said, i guess someone just needs to show me the best 7900GS i can get, from newegg or wherever, because even though that eVGA is good, i'm sure there must be a few better.

Then i can make my decision.

Like I said the price difference does even out the power. An x1950pro will probably be more powerful on average than even an OC'd 7900GS. Although showed when the games are more Nvidia biased it seems the 7900GS wins. Yet on other games more ATI based the x1950pro wins.

So what im saying is. If you would like to have that extra 40 bucks in your pocket then go for the 7900GS. But that 40 bucks would be well spent enough if not.

It's kinda all up to you past that.

Keep in mind the x1950pro does on average take more watts than the 7900GS. As often ATI cards do. Just so you knew

I have a 7900GS, but in the aftermath of Christmas when I checked out the x1950Pro I should have went with that. Don't get me wrong, the 7900GS is a GREAT Price/Performance card, but the x1950Pro is a little better for 10-20 bucks more.

Yep thats why I say if you want the 40 bucks in your pocket then go with the 7900GS. The x1950pro is better if you want to pay that much more. In the end I dont think you will see huge differences, not enough to warrant 40 bucks.

Then the question remains, which 7900GS to get? Is the eVGA the only choice i have to get clocking like they had in those test?

By the way, if you look at the tests, at the lower res, even on the tests that ATI won, the 7900GS is HARDLY behind it. I can't play the high res where the x1950 demolishes the 7900GS, so i reckon i'll not see any change at all.

Anyways, which 7900GS to get? If anyone can satisfy me more than that eVGA, i may just give j00 an e-c00ki3.

Do you have a 20+ inch monitor though?

Like I said the XFX one isnt to bad but EVGA is always trusted and not only the cheapest.

Its a tough decission like I said. The extra 40 bucks does pay for itsself. It just depends on how big your minitor is and if you want 40 bucks or more.

19 inch only goes to 1280x1024 (same as sig rig).

The eVGA really sounds nice though, especially with your sucess on it. My original plan BEFORE the holidays was an XFX 7900gs, but meh.

Get XFX, eVGA, or MSI. All three of those companies are very reputable and make nice cards.

Exactly its not like your going to 1600x1200 where the difference is alot between the 2. Buy the EVGA as its 175 with 20 MIR and its the most reputed company in Nvidia cards probably
