find the right CPU cooler for mainboard/CPU

Hi,

while dusting my interior i tore off my cpu cooler's top left leg - incredibly smart! (Also, I ran out of paste) and can't run the machine for longer than an hour and two now. (sucks, b/c I work on that machine for a living)

My mainboard is Foxconn G31MV
CPU is an Intel Core2 E8400 (3GHz)
- what cooler should I buy (don't use it for gaming, just programming)

Thanks everybody!!!

I have a TT Big Typhoon for my E8400.The Xiggy S1283 will serve you good I think, and it's also pretty cheap.

Wow, you must be a hardcore duster lol! But anyways, your cpu and board are socket 775, so any cooler you see that says fits/designed for lga 775... will work. Heres a newegg search results page with only 775 heatsinks with fans, ordered from least to most expensive: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...26%20Heatsinks

Its been awhile, but i think zalman was one of the best coolers, in terms of performance. But it sounds like you had the stock cooler before, so almost any aftermarket 775 heatsink will cool the same or better than the stock solution
Best cooler for price/performance ratio is the Scythe Mugen 2, but check if you can fit it in your case. The thing is massive.
